Eva Smith is a successful writer. She only writes only in hotel rooms. She likes the impersonal atmosphere and the feeling that everything is temporary. She is in a Los Angeles hotel finishing the last chapter of her second book but she is not satisfied with the outcome of her thoughts. Realizing her cigarette pack is empty, she heads down to the lobby to get another one and bumps into her ex boyfriend, Marc Morris who she wrote about in her first book. They are meeting for the first time after their tumultuous breakup followed by her unexpected successful book. Uncomfortably making small talk, a web of lies begins between Eva and Marc. They want to be together but they are too similar to be able to translate their love in the real world and deal with it.
