Putting the Music Together

The Music of 'Manhunter' (2016)

*** (out of 4)

If you've seen Michael Mann's MANHUNTER then you probably already know that one of the more controversial aspect among fans is the actual music score. Shout Factory! gives us this forty-two minute documentary that takes a look at the score as well as the songs that are on it. Composer Michel Rubini gets the majority of the running time as he goes into detail on meeting Mann for the project and what the director told him he wanted from the score. From here we get to hear from others whose songs were used in the picture. I personally didn't like the score or the music of MANHUNTER but watching this documentary at least gave me a good idea of where Mann was coming from and what he was trying to do with the picture. If you're a fan of the score then you should love hearing all these stories of how everything came together. And, if you're like me and don't like the score, this probably won't change your opinion on it but this is a very good featurette.
