This film interviews five Rosies, who worked at the Kaiser Shipyards in Richmond, CA during WWII as welders, electricians and draftswomen. 747 Victory and Liberty ships were built at the yards between 1943-1945. It was the largest shipyard in the world at that time, and when millions of men went to war; over 6 million women went to work. Some for the first time in their lives; doing jobs that historically only men had done. The women in this film were part of a vanguard of women across the country who not only helped to win a war, but secured a victory for themselves as well. These are the women who built ships.
