Storyline

In the 25th century, gifted galactic alliance fleet officer Ed Mercer;, who went rogue after a divorce over his wife's adultery with an alien, finally gets a shot at a command due to lack of qualified officers. The new star-ship captain eagerly recruits maverick buddy lieutenant Gordon Malloy and is reasonably happy with his incomplete, multi-species staff, setting out to pick up a yet to assign first officer on their first mission. As Malloy predicts, he freaks when he learns his XO is his ex Kelly Grayson, but can't wriggle out. The mission is not actually delivering supplies to a spatial labs-spangled space station, that was leading Dr. Aronov's cover for seeking assistance with his local time manipulation device, which has great economic but also military potential. As feared, the enemy Krill empire got wind of it and his a ship waiting for them, even a traitor in the lab. The new crew works together so well, Mercer reconsiders splitting it up. Trivia

Halston Sage's character Kitan was originally planned to have no eyebrows, so Halston shaved her own off for the role. However the resulting look was received poorly, and for the remainder of the season she can be seen to be wearing false eyebrows. See more »

Goofs

Within a few minutes of each other, Ed and Kelly both use the wrong case for the first person singular pronoun. Ed says "for you and I" and Kelly says "between Ed and I" (both times it should be "me"). See more »

Quotes

Ed Mercer: You knew what Arbor Day was, right?
Kelly Grayson: I mean, actually, I had to think a second. Kind of confusing.
Ed Mercer: Nobody knows what Arbor Day is.
Bortus: No.
Alara Kitan: No.
Dr. Aronov: I knew.
Ed Mercer: Well, what would you have said?
Kelly Grayson: I would have said... "You got wood."
Gordon Malloy: [the crew laughs] Yeah. Yes.
Ed Mercer: Yeah, that is better, isn't it?

This is a good start

I remember thinking how awful TNG was when compared to the OS. Who was this pansey "Cpt Picard" compared to James T Kirk? But in time, TNG evolved, the character's chemistry began to emerge and the episodes got much better. Now, I love watching TNG reruns. The same will happen with The Orwell. The episodes will get stronger, the characters will develop bonds and the show will evolve in to a great unofficial addition to the Star Trek Universe. And believe this. The Orwell should be carrying the Star Trek name and be part of the ST universe. It should be Star Trek Orwell, not Star Trek Discovery. Hopefully we'll have a full 7 seasons.
