Storyline

Those that are celebrating their 36th birthday today include: Jack, whose wife Rebecca is expecting triplets, which will be their first children; Randall, who has made a financial success of his life despite being abandoned by his unknown father at a firehall when he was a newborn; and twins Kevin and Kate, whose lives have taken divergent paths based solely on appearance, with "model good looks" actor Kevin having a lucrative lead role in a mindless sitcom called "Man-ny", the role which often requires him to be shirtless, and obese Kate wallowing in the difficulties in her life, those difficulties because of her weight. On this specific day, Rebecca goes into labor, six weeks premature, meaning that the children will have the same birthday as Jack. The stress from what is already considered a difficult pregnancy is ratcheted up a notch when Rebecca's regular doctor becomes incapacitated, leaving her in the care of a doctor she's never met, Dr. Katowski - "Dr. K" - he a ... Trivia

The pilot makes clear almost exactly when the kids were born: Sometime after the American embassy takeover on 11/4/79 (final clips in the hospital show Walter Cronkite on television covering it). The year of the pilot (which airs in 2016) is 2015, meaning the kids were born sometime November 1979. Pittsburgh has an educational cut off of December 1st. If the triplets were not held back, they would have been in 1st grade (not 2nd) when the Challenger crashes on January 28, 1986. They wouldn't have been in pre-K or Kindergarten, as they would have started kindergarten the year they were turning 5, i.e. 1984; they would have started 2nd grade in 1986, but AFTER the Challenger tragedy. Quotes

Dr. Nathan Katowski: I like to think that maybe one day you'll be an old man like me, talking a younger man's ear off, explaining to him how you took the sourest lemon that life has to offer and turned it into something resembling lemonade. If you can do that, then you will still be... taking three babies home from this hospital. Just maybe not the way you planned.

Well we have a few 10's and a 5, now we have a 6

I'm doing this correctly, I have only watched the Pilot so far. Anyway, anything with Mandy Moore and Justin Hartley automatically gets a huge head start.

Ok, so this is the deal. I like the premise but the director/producer whatever really laid it on thick and as the gentleman who gave it a 5 review mentioned - it is forced and the music detracts from the "drama".

And one of the 10 reviews says this is better than the Lost Pilot. So, envelope please, 1,000,000 people were surveyed and the top 2 answers are on the board. Lost with 999,999 votes and This is us with 1 vote.

In no way am I saying this sucks, but it is very uneven. The highs - damn that baby Doctor is good and I like Justin just saying No. And for the most part I like how Justin's sister started her arc. That's enough for now, I suspect that as a viewer if you have a personal connection with any of the stories you will like it better than an objective viewer - but that's neither here nor there. Cheers.
