Tells the wild story of young William Shakespeare's arrival onto the punk-rock theater scene in 16th century London - the seductive, violent world where his raw talent faced rioting audiences, religious fanatics and raucous side-shows. It's described as a contemporary version of Shakespeare's life, played to a modern soundtrack that exposes all his recklessness, lustful temptations and brilliance. Attracted to Will's naive genius is Alice Burbage, the talented, beautiful and rebellious daughter of James Burbage, the carpenter with a vision to build the first theater in London since Roman times. Despite being the daughter of an impresario, Alice is forbidden by society from pursuing a career in the theater. Her brother Richard Burbage, is innately talented, but too much in love with himself and prone to overact. A chance encounter at the theater leads him to team up with Will in what would soon become the greatest actor-writer partnership the world has ever seen. Rounding out Will's ...

Warning: Show is Not Entirely Truthful!

As if that was really necessary to point out...

Maybe poets and playwrights dress as rock stars because they were the rock stars of the time.

Maybe the groundlings look like they are on their way to a rave because these plays *were* the raves of the time.

It seems to be the merger of fiction and history and contemporary styles that offends people the most.

Why should anyone care if they aren't getting a History Channel/Discovery Channel-esque documentary/drama about someone we read about at least a dozen times in grade school English class and a dozen more in college? This is TNT we are talking about! If I wanted historical accuracy, I would open a textbook. This is a fictional dramatization about a 400 year old person whose integrity is already well established, and whose reputation is far too legendary to be soiled.

The less-than enthusiastic naysayers may just as well also boycott "Hamilton The Musical" because the founding fathers weren't really any other race apart from white, and also not hip hop artists. Hip hop isn't time period after all! And yet Hamilton has Grammy's and Tony's and a Pulitzer (oh my!). I don't see "Will" getting that same kind of acclaim, but clearly there are some people who are just tired of seeing history being represented the same way over and over again.

If you do want a show (still in the bud) with pretty good performances all around, a decent plot so far, and HBO level graphic violence, I do recommend "Will." It's stylized yeah, but then again, so is anything else we see in Film and TV every other day of the week.
