Slow but interesting...and probably for a select audience
Let's face it...not everyone is going to be interested in a documentary about moving a lighthouse. The film is chock full of engineering and it sure would help that you like lighthouses from the start. I cannot imagine most teens, for example, watching this episode of "Nova". But this in no way to say that "Operation Lighthouse Rescue" is bad in any way. In fact, it's very well done throughout.
The Gay Head Lighthouse on Martha's Vineyard has been in trouble. It sits atop a cliff but over the decades, the cliff has eroded more and more...to the point where the lighthouse will topple into the sea unless something is done. This picture shows the steps that occur in order to move the structure to a safer place on the cliff...and it's a very slow and exacting process. I found it all very interesting and am glad I saw the episode. I also appreciate all the CG models that explained and clearly showed what was occurring and it's a quality production throughout.
