Reminiscent of Grant and Melissa's days in Glee.
Jarl8629 March 2017
Firstly, it's a filler. And for that I think people hate it out of principle. Fun be damned unless it furthers the plot or characters. People seem to have forgotten that Flash and Supergirl are supposed to be the more lighthearted shows to the dark and gritty Arrow. We should want to see them have fun and be goofy and campy. But I get it, if you don't like musicals, you won't like this. Secondly, the plot is not there. And I don't care. I get to see people from several of the DC shows interact AND SING! So who gives a damn, it was fun to watch, and there's surprisingly good voices in this, if you manage to listen past the studio edits. Thirdly, Gustin and Benoist have AMAZING chemistry. Had they shared a show I would've shipped them harder than anything. Mostly because their characters are both super in one way or another, and I've never been able to buy into superhero relationships where one partner is human and the other not. Relationships need 2 equals to work, realistically. I get that comics has a human partner to keep the Super one "grounded" in his/her humanity, but that's OK for drawn characters. Put them on the screen like this and it's harder to buy. Fourthly, I appreciate the Glee-vibe this episode gave. Darren Criss, Melissa and Grant have all proved to be great voices, though frankly they really underused Darren with the air-time he got. Eh, oh well.

I would have watched Glee instead.

I'm not trying to be hateful and I like this show a lot. On the other hand, this episode was really a disappointment for me and it diverged from the story line. Besides, the episode couldn't even deliver emotional fulfillment. I couldn't even feel something during the episode but instead I had been thinking about how bizarre this was. It's not like I want whole show to be composed of action scenes, excitements, thrills but at least deliver ideas without changing the show into a completely different material.

Not as bad as some of the reviews are saying
lefauveburke22 March 2017
It doesn't really make sense with how much hate is going on with this episode.Yes this episode is a little bit more silly than the other ones. I did like the ending but it wasn't as great as the main plot line episodes. Most of the people give it 1/10 for ridiculous reasons like "there isn't Savitar in it" I really think this was a good episode that had a lot more characterization than just "I need to get faster and defeat Savitar" repetitive episodes. I think it was a good change up while weird was still a good episode.

Not great but quite enjoyable

Warning: Spoilers
A nice break from all the drama, and something fun to watch. I have to give them credit for the creativity that they put into this episode because there was a lot of it.

My eyes were on Kara all the time. She is stunningly beautiful. Everyone's performance was excellent and Barry (Grant) and Kara (Melissa) perform so well together as a duo( I'm your super-friend)

The only minus point I found was Music Meister. Why was he robbing a bank when he was just testing Barry and Kara?

Ray Romano said it best "You cannot manufacture love." Anyway, a nice try from the director. There should be more Flash episodes like this!

The Flash and Supergirl share a "Duet" in the strongest episode of the season. Warning: Spoilers
The Flash has been steadily declining in quality after an incredibly fun first season. That's not to say it was or ever will be Breaking Bad, Person of Interest, or The Americans, but that doesn't mean its faults should be ignored. The 3rd season in its entirety has been plagued by problems that only appeared in the second half of Season 2; an overly glum tone, repetitive artificial drama, incredibly foolish out-of- character decision making, and Barry being the worst. It's almost as if the creative team doesn't recognize The Flash is at its best when it's light on its feet, just like the protagonist. "Duet" does just that, giving an episode overflowing with humor, charm, and excitement. Barry isn't terrible here! There should be more Flash episodes like this.

haters gonna hate
kevinplessinger2 April 2017
Looking at the negative reviews of this episode, I conclude that hardcore comic book fans are rather... shallow. This episode was a wonderful homage to the golden days of musicals. The cast has multiple Broadway veterans and expats from Glee. This was begging for a whimsical, musical episode, and the cast and writers delivered in spades.

If the only reason someone disliked this episode is because of the tongue-in-cheek fun, I'll be glad that you stopped watching.

What a pointless episode
alex_wtfsp22 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I'm going to keep it short and my opinions here are just that,my opinions. If you somehow enjoyed this dogsh*t episode good for you.

-Nothing to do with Savitar or anything going on in the show, besides the stupid romance side, which in a superhero show I don't really care for. -Plot is cheesy and it feels like it was put together simply because they wanted a musical episode.

+ Music Meister catches your attention with his abilities which were actually interesting BUT the show never actually follows up on that, instead opting to waste your time with mediocre music peaces.

If you enjoy musicals you probably won't find this episode as grose as I did,but for me personally this was THE WORST episode since this show launched. I was so disgusted by it in fact that I made an IMDb account just to write this.

Musical haters be gone!
algramza3 April 2018
This episode is amazing! Such a fun way to do a musical episode and incorporate it into the storyline! It's very very well done with some great music and the actors and actresses can actually legit sing! If you hate musicals, you probably will hate this and you can go cry about it in your sad musical-less world! I've watched it twice and will probably watch it more! Love it!

All worlds are possible in the Multiverse.. Even a musical one.

An episode that reaches back into the 'Golden Age' of televison entertainment. An eclectic nod to the history of stage and screen storytelling. Only those who love or appreciate the musical artform can see the magic of this episode.

Seriously.....?
noreplyutility21 March 2017
If the goal was to make an episode that was unwatchable and as irritating as fingers on a chalkboard, THEY DID IT! I normally like this show but wow this was some true crap. It took quite an effort to take a winning recipe and make it intolerable. The commercials where more enjoyable. If the future episodes are off-genre creepy cries for help like this one, I am done with the show. Who thought this was a good idea? Why? Fire that person please.

Great...after you change your mindset!
PenitentPasser23 November 2021
When watching musical episodes of TV shows you have to get into a different mindset. You can't judge the episode based on the expectations of regular ones. Plots in musicals are never that complicated mainly because the point of musicals is to enjoy the singing and the dancing. You just have to let yourself go and enjoy. After I did that I loved this episode so much more.

Also, this episode is a nice respite from the more serious and darker episodes previous to this one.

Flash and Supergirl went into a musical world
mim_adiba22 March 2017
This is the worst episode so far. Their acting and everything was bad. The plot was not well set. We expect much better than this episode. This type of episode would make people stop watching The Flash. Crossovers are supposed to be extra fun and enjoyable. Not rubbish like this.

I loved this episode
musicshowtime25 April 2017
I don t understand why so many people hated this episode, saying that a dc comics superhero cannot take part in a musical. That was a brilliant idea, why? Because absolutely nobody expected that and i enjoyed it very much, not just for the idea of a musical, i liked it for the message the Meister gave to Flash and Supergirl, that love wins, no matter the circumstances. It has to do very much with the plot, it makes the links between Barry and Iris much stronger. You, the ones that said that this episode was awful and a TV show with superheroes shouldn t have that as an episode, maybe you have no soul. I got goosebumps, and i'm a boy, and no, i m not that kind what you re thinking of

Barry Allen and Kara Danvers FRIENDSHIP
userterminationnotice5 August 2018
This episode was one of the quirkiest and funniest episodes of all time. It was very entertaining to watch in my opinion. In fact, the whole season was amazing, but this season was the best.

I definitely recommend you watch this episode.

P.S. If you liked the songs in the episode so much, Warner Brothers have an album.

A Punch to the Face
karnvaller-9073622 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
As one of the other reviewer, I too created this IMDb account just to review this horrible lack of an excuse for an episode.

My main problem with this episode is how the creators totally neglect their main audience and make them watch more than 40 minutes of something that has almost nothing to do with the show's original plot. It could just as well been 40+ minutes of a whole different show.

If I would review this episode on it own without any relation to the show, I still would have given it this grade. The whole episode was just disgustingly cheesy and chemistry between Barry and (whatever the name of) Super girl, is so awkward and feels dubious and forced.

Something that is really bothering me, is how this episode (at the moment) can have a rating of 7.3 stars. the only logical explanation is that the PR-manager of the show has payed a bunch of people to write them high rated dishonest reviews.

In conclusions, this episode was absolutely awful. Hopefully, we will Barry run back through time next episode in order to make this episode undone.

Watch for yourself and don't read reviews
sexystarwarslover1 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I have never seen the Flash only in Supergirl and I'm half way through Super girl S2 when the Music Meister appeared and put her in a trance and then it says to be continued in the Flash. Now, this is my fifth TV musical and this joins the other three {Buffy, OUAT and Scrubs} where the musical is amazing. I love the feel of the 1940's because it's different and interesting and coming into this show from Supergirl is different but I caught on fast and perhaps I'll consider this show too. I feel like people are judging this too harshly because by the end of this episode Kara and Barry are resolving their relationships with Iris and Mon which I am thrilled for cause I actually am enjoying Kara and Mon together. Musicals in TV land would be hard and I like musicals which follow a story and the Music Meister is an interesting character and Darren Criss plays him well. Ignore all reviews only read good ones for this and see it for yourself before you form an opinion because that is why I am writing this review because this episode needs more positively

Worst.Episode.Ever.
christopherleereed22 March 2017
Of all of the CW's D.C. shows, this is my favorite. For this episode, I couldn't even sit through it. No real plot, just lots of pointless singing. Sorry teen viewers of the CW, (as if no one knows the target audience) Glee belongs on Fox; and has no place in the D.C.U. I'm not a fan of musicals; and I've let a lot slide in the way of the writing crew taking liberties with the D.C.U.; but a musical episode? That's asking a lot from a fan base that's still waiting for "My Crazy Ex Girlfriend" to get the cancellation it rightly deserves. Just stick to the main story and occasional filler episode, please?

Absolutely loved it!
jardouin127 March 2017
The haters need to simmer down. Obviously there are just too many comic book fans out there who are taking a show - which is meant to be entertaining and ideally take you out of your comfort zone, not some life or death dramatic matter - much too seriously. This episode wasn't meant to be a work of cinematic genius, and maybe once you realize that wasn't the intended standard, you can sit back and actually let yourself appreciate it.

I was, am, and always will be a hard-core Gleek, so seeing Darren Criss, Grant Gustin, and Melissa Benoist randomly bursting into song and dance together absolutely felt like coming home for me. It was as familiar as breathing, and Darren Criss was my all-time favorite character on Glee (Still love you, Blaine!), and Grant Gustin is a very close second. As an outsider here, a musical theater geek born and bred who has never picked up a comic book in her life, I actually only ever started watching The Flash at all BECAUSE I'd fallen in love with Grant Gustin on Glee. Now it's one of my favorite shows, and this episode was just a delicious representation of ALL the things I love about Grant Gustin.

It's a shame musical theater isn't for everyone; musical theater lovers have been just as big outcasts as "comic book nerds" were before the Superhero trend took off. But if you take this episode at face value, it's a total gem. Melissa Benoist's first song took my breath away, that group opening number was well I choreographed, the cameo characters we're fun and unexpected even if the plot itself was predictable, and I could watch "Super Friend" on repeat for hours. Point of fact, I've actually already watched this episode half a dozen times and though it's totally different from what I usually see on The Flash, it's definitely a good different, and I have no doubt it will remain one of my top 3 favorite episodes. If it didn't make you smile, you're probably just not a very happy person to begin with. I, on the other hand, grin like a fool every time I watch this episode and will probably go watch it again right now, lol

Possibly the worst episode of anything ever.
pickleysnipes24 March 2017
I normally enjoy this show for its almost unbearable camp and hilariously beef-headed writing, (frozen laser beams anyone?). This episode, however, is pure garbage. It's bad enough when they try to keep their worst shows afloat by having terrible crossovers, but this episode had almost nothing to do with anything and was a total waste of time.

Of course this fits in the DC universe!
archyros-3090926 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I am sick of reading all of the reviews that say that Music Meister does not fit in the DC verse. How many comics did I read about Mxyzptlk? He is always annoying beyond belief! And so many other DC villains who are clowns, both literal and figurative!! Of course this fits in this universe, and on this show...why not? A fun break from the grim Savitar storyline, and something light after Barry breaks up with Iris (temporarily I hope!) is nice, and it is better than having a long spring break, like so many of my other favorite shows are taking. And since I never watched Glee, I was pleasantly surprised to hear their singing voices...speaking as a child of a professional singer, I remember when my father would bring people home who claimed to be able to sing, only to find out that we had to sit through stuff that made our ears bleed! All I can say is, if its not for you, so be it. I just don't understand the furor, the need to create accounts just to denigrate the people and intent behind this episode. Oh well, to each his own...If this episode stops anyone from finishing watching this season, that would be just too bad. This format will likely never be repeated.

Thanks for ruining flash, one less show to watch now
zeloeterno22 March 2017
FYI .... this episode was so terrible it inspired me to not only stop watching the show altogether, but to create an IMDb profile to voice my rage into this meaningless review. What a terrible terrible idea. These are action comic book characters, they do not need retarded gimmicks to please the audience. I sincerely hope this hurts the pockets of everyone involved. Supergirl was terrible enough with it being nothing but a "look at me i'm a girl, i can be super too" poster, now they had to let that ridiculous influence into this show. No wonder they weren't joined into the DC cinematic universe, that is serious and true to the comic form, this might as well have teletubbies dancing in the background and everyone eating rainbow colored politically correct unicorn sh.. for breakfast. This no longer has anything to do with the Dc comics, they just took some characters and made a glee episode and somehow figured it would have no negative influence on how the main body of real comic fans (which put the show on the map) felt about it.
