Quotes

Master Sgt. Jenkins: [to Ned] An immature man wants to die nobly for a cause, but a mature man wants to live humbly for one. What that means, Ned, is we're in danger at home. We need good people looking after things here. I mean, sure, everybody wants to put on a uniform and be a hero, but... the real heroes are the ones looking after their fellow citizens here on the home front. The home front.

Funny, charming, painful, heart-felt, and relatable
16 December 2018 | by mattscandaleSee all my reviews

This film is a small treasure. We get great performances from an experienced but not quite recognizable cast. (The mother was in the West Wing and the father was in Married With Children.) There are no spaceships or car chases. Nobody wins the lottery. Every character in the film is at least slightly pathetic while being completely realistic. There are no cheap stunts, gags, or shock devices. The plot is never forced. The background music is never jutting. There are no lame tropes. It's down-to-earth, naturally-revealing filmmaking at its best. It's slightly painful, touching, sweet, and memorable.
