This seems like the end of the first book and the start of the second book, if my memory serves me correctly. The episode was a bit slow until the end (which was awesome), but a slow episode of The Expanse is still better than most other shows anyway- and it's understandable since it's the bridge between two books, where you kind of have to have a lull.
I can't even remember what the characters in the book looked like to me anymore since they've all been replaced in my head by those from the TV series.
I think this is now my favourite TV series of all time.
