Mila Kunis Brings Spaghetti Straps Back at the 2018 People's Choice Awards
Damn, Jackie! Mila Kunis walked the People's Choice Awards red carpet in a stunning Lbd, and we are very much digging this double-strapped '90s update. The Spy Who Dumped Me is also nominated for Comedy Movie of 2018. This is Kunis' first People's Choice nomination since 2013, when she was nominated for Favorite Movie Actress...

Peter Bart: Genre-Flipping Stars Might Gain Fans, But Could Also Lose Paydays
With three films already in release this year and another coming, Melissa McCarthy has been wallowing in worshipful media coverage. “Has anyone ever worked so hard to make us laugh?” the New York Times Magazine asked in this week’s cover story. Having established that she “owns” comedy, however, McCarthy, in true movie star fashion, has now switched to high drama. Mirthless Melissa’s new film, appropriately titled Can You Ever Forgive Me?, is best described by the New Yorker as “a mournful film suffused with an air of doom.”

I don’t want to pick on Melissa McCarthy, but the compulsion of stars to shed their true persona has always intrigued me. The pages of Hollywood history are steeped in examples of famed actors who want to prove that they can “stretch” — code for self-destruct.

On occasion, of course, the results have been inspiring: Remember how Tom Hanks, obviously

Summer 2018: The Winners & The Losers at The Us Box Office

  • HeyUGuys
Now that’s what I call a summer! Heat, actual heat. Weeks on end of prolonged sunshine and blue skies. This was the kind of summer that only used to exist in the movies. The irony of course is that baking sunshine and relentless barbecue conditions are the sworn enemy of the film industry, keeping its target audience outside drinking cold beers when they should be huddled in the cinema instead, eating unjustifiably expensive popcorn.

Miraculously, the twin threats of unexpected sunshine and the World Cup did not have the disastrous effect on box office takings one might have assumed, which suggests that 2018’s summer movie season was a bit of a decent vintage, offering up blockbusters interesting enough to tempt people off their deckchairs and into the darkened Multiplexes (or maybe they just needed two hours in a room with decent air-conditioning).

A slightly more cynical argument might be

Can You Ever Forgive Me? review – Melissa McCarthy forges a great performance

In this shaggy, melancholic true story, the Oscar nominee delivers some of her best work yet as a struggling biographer who finds an unlikely new source of income

It’s not been a great year for Melissa McCarthy, an actor who has enjoyed a number of standout years since she broke out in 2011’s Bridesmaids, bagging an Oscar nomination in the process. Her brand of often hilarious yet too often lazily repetitive comedy had been wearing thin already and with the one-two punch of Life of the Party and The Happytime Murders, two critically eviscerated and commercially underperforming disappointments, her luck seemed to be coming to an end. But with quite miraculous timing, she has found her way into this year’s awards conversation with her first of two more serious-minded roles.

Eight Of The Best Mother-Daughter Movies

McCarthy plunges headfirst into the campus experience with her less than thrilled daughter but soon the two embrace all the fun, freedom & frat parties on a journey of self-discovery. To celebrate the release of Life of the Party on DVD from the 17th September, we’re taking a look at some of our favourite mother-daughter duos from over the years.

Mamma Mia

Synopsis: In this Broadway musical adaptation, Amanda Seyfried plays Sophie, a bride-to-be who is trying to identify her father out of three of her mother’s (Meryl Streep) former boyfriends.

Meryl Streep is magnificent as always, and her (sometimes tested) relationship with Sophie is both believable and relatable. The pair share some lovely moments, including getting ready for her

Warner Bros. Film Chief Toby Emmerich on ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ Sequels, ‘Aquaman’

  • Variety
It wasn’t a typical summer for Warner Bros., a studio that has long dominated popcorn seasons past with the likes of “The Dark Knight,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” and “Wonder Woman.”

This year, the superheroes and post-apocalyptic warriors were missing from the company’s slate, but that didn’t stop Warners from weaving together a string of box office winners. “Ocean’s 8,” “The Meg,” and “Crazy Rich Asians” all combined to put together a memorable summer. Even though “Tag” and “Life of the Party” didn’t set records, both films should end up in the black. What’s particularly impressive is that an era where franchises are the name of the game, Warner Bros. pulled it off by relying heavily on original properties. Only “Ocean’s 8” is part of a pre-existing series, and the film is a spin-off from the George Clooney heist adventures of a decade ago.

“The business is increasingly challenging,

From Vine to VMAs: How Shawn Mendes Beat the One-Hit-Wonder Curse
“I fell on my ass in front of 80,000 people.” Shawn Mendes, singer, songwriter and 20-year-old budding superstar, sighs and pulls out his phone. “Look at this, dude.” The spill, immortalized on Instagram from the Festival d’été in Quebec last month, indeed lives up to the designation “most embarrassing moment” of his professional life so far. “I was excited and I didn’t see how high I was jumping from, and Dave Grohl was on the side of the stage, watching,” Mendes continues, mortified that the legendary Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer witnessed the stumble, along with tens of thousands of fellow Canadians. “It was … amazing.”

If humility is part of Mendes’ career strategy, it’s working. But he immediately cues up another clip from the same festival shot the following night. During the Foo Fighters’ headlining set, Grohl tells 80,000 people: “Shawn Mendes is a bad motherf—er.

'Crazy Rich Asians' Dominates the Competition in Its Second Weekend

'Crazy Rich Asians' Dominates the Competition in Its Second Weekend
It was another crazy rich weekend for Warner Bros.'s Crazy Rich Asians, which dropped just 5.7% in its second weekend based on estimates, and if last weekend's performance is any indication, don't be surprised to see that weekend number climb once actuals are received on Monday afternoon. As for the weekend's new wide releases, both The Happytime Murders and A.X.L. struggled, though Sony's limited release of Searching delivered a chart-topping per theater average in limited release, in advance of going wide next weekend. With an impressive $25 million, WB's Crazy Rich Asians dropped just 5.7% compared to its opening weekend, easily remaining the #1 film at the weekend box office. The film's domestic gross now totals over $76 million after just 12 days in release, on its way to what looks like it could be a $150+ million domestic run. The film's second weekend drop is one of the smallest of all-time
