Later the nature of the murder reminds Geordie of an identical unsolved case from three years earlier and switches his attentions to the prime suspect at the time, gruff toy-shop owner Albert Tannen. Meanwhile, Amanda, pregnant by estranged husband Guy, is cast out by her bigoted father and hoping for a future with Sidney. Sidney eventually unmasks the killer whilst Mrs Maguire and Leonard come to Amanda's aid. Written by don @ minifie-1

Christmas Special 2016
24 December 2016 | by See all my reviews

The festive theme was provided by the curate Leonard Finch as he tries to bring a Brecht interpretation of the Nativity. Well it brought some comic relief.

There are some parallels to the Nativity story with Amanda and Sidney's illicit romance. Amanda's father has disowned her and forced her to be homeless at Christmas.

Sidney and Geordie find out that the groom has failed to turn up to his wedding, he is later found dead with wedding rings lodged in his mouth.

The bride to be is the main suspect especially as Sidney finds out she was previously married and she is not in mourning for long as she works in a strip club and back at work, stripping in a Santa costume. For the first Grantchester festive episode we have a Vicar in a strip club.

However as a feature length episode the mystery was not strong enough for the longer running time.
