Centaur lives a modest life with his family in rural Kyrgyzstan until he abruptly becomes the center of attention when he is caught stealing a racehorse at night. A story inspired by the myth when horses became the wings of men.
Centaur is a quiet, small and modest man, a loving father of a little boy that has never spoken a word and the husband of young, deaf-mute Maripa. Together they lead a simple life in a small village of Kyrgyzstan. Centaur is above all a respected man among his neighbors, a man beyond any suspicion, but he has a belief deeply rooted inside him. He still believes that Kyrgyz people once united and invincible thanks to their horses, have been punished by Heavens for misusing that power to achieve their mercenary goals; Beyond any suspicion, Centaur becomes a horse thief, as he thinks only a genuine racer riding at night and praying for forgiveness can write off the curse. But his well-hidden secret cannot be kept for long. When the truth shines, he will need to decide the destiny of his family, co-villagers and his own.Written by

First of all its a really simple storyline: An old family father becomes a thief, when he steals horses to ride them in the night. The character himself is friendly but as well as controvesrial, as stealing horses is a crime in Kyrgyzstan, even in the 21st century. But the hero sticks to old times, where all people has been families and living in tents, and horses with wings were the gate to heaven.
The movie has a lot of modern, western elements, which makes it much more accesible, comparable to some of the kyrgiz movies from the past - its not an art movie at all, it is the visible evolution of the Kyrgyz cinema.
I´ve bee living in Kyrgyzstan for a year. Know all the areas and beautiful landscapes. I was watching kyrgyz movies ten years back, and I have to say I havent had high expectations for "Centaur". But the movie became such an lovely cinema experience for me that I felt like to be there in this beautiful country.
