Pedophiles have long been the most demonized people in society, but new research is showing that understanding them is the first step in lowering instances of child sexual abuse. Meet the men born attracted to the impossible, and the maverick doctors who dare advocate on their behalf.
I thought more than twice before reviewing this documentary. The subject of pedophilia is so charged in today''s society that people seem to lose their minds when the subject is mentioned. I wholeheartedly endorse the approach of the two research bodies talked about in this documentary. Understanding and prevention are the only real tools we have that are going to be of any benefit. Behaving like monkeys will do nothing but inspire more fear and foster stupidity. The two men who identified themselves as pedophiles and showed their faces are to be admired because they are brave. They are doing the most constructive things they can in spite of their affliction. One of them even sought help from a psychiatrist who reacted derisively to his request for treatment. I found that truly shocking & disheartening. One community in the documentary is trying to help by offering these people direct support from police, psychologists, etc. They all meet together regularly in one big group to help prevent harm to children. The important thing is it is not hidden away because the subject is distasteful. They are attempting to prevent the harm from ever happening rather than reacting once it is too late. I encountered a pedophile as a child. I believe this documentary is a step in the right direction and should be seen by as many adults as possible. It may foster a more open minded, thoughtful, & above all, constructive approach to this confronting & maligned subject.
