The awards are only given at the finish line...
1 June 2020 | by CoventrySee all my reviews

In my native language, there's a famous expression which states: the awards are only given at the finish line. This basically means that you are only getting credited and/or rewarded for your accomplishments when the work is entirely finished and overall successful. I never could think of an expression more apt and suitable to describe "Blood Drive". Regardless of how awesome the concept is and how tremendously entertaining some of the earliest episodes were, the last five - or so - episodes were so incredibly weak and derivative that my overall sentiments towards "Blood Drive" are negative and bitter. The series that felt so fresh and deliciously absurd at the beginning gradually grew into a dull, uninspired and overlong mess. In my humble opinion, the scripts should have been limited to adventures on the road, during the individual race days. The first 6 or 7 episodes were like that, and the formula worked effectively well, with Grace and Arthur facing eccentric but always different types of menace in every new episode. But since "A Fistful of Blood", there hasn't been any racing whatsoever and the quality and (especially) the entertainment factor sunk to new lows with each new episode. This final one sees Grace, Arthur and Julian Slink joining forces to bring down Heart Enterprises and its diabolical CEO. Maybe it's because I've been fed up with it since a few weeks already, but even this supposedly glorious finale is thoroughly unimpressive and borderline tedious. The very last shots leave plenty of room for a second season, but - at least as far as I'm concerned - they shouldn't bother.
