Trivia

Flintheart Glomgold's characterization in this show is being a cheap knock-off of Scrooge McDuck: "When Glomgold saw that Scrooge was a Scottish billionaire, he decided to be more Scottish and even richer. He's an '80s billionaire who made all his money from branding and getting his face on every storefront."

Furthermore, Keith Ferguson (Glomgold) is American, and David Tennant (Scrooge) really IS from Scotland. See more »

So boring that the kids left the room
24 August 2017 | by baldarovSee all my reviews

We have two kids, one nine and the other three. They've watched nearly all of the original Ducktales series and have enjoyed it a lot. It is quite cute to hear the youngest sing the opening song I grew up with.

This new version though just does not hold their interest. Both left to do other things roughly ten minutes into the show. They did come back and watch every so often but were quite uninterested for the most part.

I myself found it hard to stay focused on as well. The changes to the characters are too drastic for my tastes, ruining what potential the show had and the story line was not very interesting.

My wife meh'd it as soon as the lackluster animation started and eventually told me to turn it off instead of wasting electricity.

So many problems...

First off, the nephews - what the heck is up with the voice actors for them? The voices do not fit in any way and are even worse than the ones from Quack Pack. And then the way they act... not the best of role models to say the least. At least they don't have them smoking and drinking although going by the voice acting, they sound old enough to do so.

Then the next slap in the face, Mrs Beakley. Gone is the rather nice old lady to instead be replaced by well... someone not so nice and not so old. Joy. I understand that characters should be modernized but... bleah.

Then there's Donald Duck. Of all of the changes they've made to the characters, his are the easiest to accept. I found him a bit harder to understand than the older Donalds though.

Glomgold was a big fat no. No no no. Seriously, what were they thinking? Launchpad... voice again. Argh... Does he come off as less intelligent now? Of course there is also Scrooge McDuck who is possibly the least changed of the lot. The new voice was jarring at first but I got used to it fairly quick.

Now... for the only good thing change in my opinion, Webby. Nice improvements on giving her a personality and all that. Didn't quite agree with some of the things they had her saying but I would say she's a better character now instead of the somewhat lackluster original.

Still doesn't make up for the fact that we all found the show boring.
