Fascinating...
28 February 2016 | by MartinHaferSee all my reviews

In this episode of "Nova", the show is all about the oldest mummified human the ice-man dubbed 'Utzi'. Utzi was found a few years ago in the Tyrol and since then the very well preserved remains have been kept in strict conditions in order to present decomposition. But this quarantine was broken in order to create a copy of the guy for museum use. This meant photographing it and using a 3D printer to create a perfect cast. However, this wasn't the end of it...the printed copy needed painting and detail work.

Among the interesting finds were a DNA sampling of the mummy, how he was apparently using ancient (and reasonably effective) drugs to treat his many illnesses as well as his extensive use of tattoos. Overall, a very interesting episode chock full of science, interesting tidbits and excitement. Well worth seeing.
