A good book does not mean good TV
7 October 2018 | by dgjones-62258See all my reviews

Excellent production values and a really good cast. My problem with this story is it isn't for TV (At least not this version). There is no dynamism, virtually everything is static.

In the first episode the director did their best to maintain my interest by cutting back and forth on time lines, but after the first few times I just found it annoying.

In the second episode even the court room scenes were boring! How can a court room not be dramatic?

I'm a drama fan and don't particularly like action films, but TV is a visual medium. There has to be movement. Any amateur screenwriter knows this. To me this is another example of a BBC executive either choosing a book they like, or helping the author out.

I can't imagine HBO, Netflix or Amazon making a show as boring as this.

Come on BBC, get some decent writers, not just your friends.
