Summaries

  • Borlange is an industrial town in Sweden and known as a crime city until the residents start a movement called Peace & Love. What starts as a small gathering of people inspired to change the town (and the world) becomes the biggest music festival in the country, attracting the likes of Jay-Z and Rhianna. But despite an ongoing struggle between idealism and commercial interests, they continue to spread the good message around the world and start more festivals in Chile, Cuba and USA. At this high point in Peace & Love's story, London filmmaker George MacCallum joins his old friend Mark, who works for Peace & Love, in Cuba in 2012. The documentary starts here. At the beginning of the end. Filmed over two years, George follows the founder of Peace & Love, Jesper, and his old friend Mark (who is Jesper's right hand man). During this time George intimately films tragic events unfolding for Mark, and is behind-the-scenes at difficult times with Jesper when his life's work, Peace & Love, fails and eventually is forced into bankruptcy. 'Peace & Love is bankrupt' was the unfortunate headline in national Swedish news that day. It was tragic for festival-lovers and for those working for Peace & Love, but no-one was more devastated than the people of Borlange, who say that Peace & Love saved their town. But they won't let Peace & Love go! And the movement begins again, just as it did when the festival first started. The people of Borlange save Peace & Love.
