Somewhat warily mild-mannered teacher Ian joins the stag party for his sister's groom-to-be , the hearty Johnners, in the Scottish highlands and soon suspects that Johnner's boorish clique, led by obnoxious best man Ledge, see him as an outsider, ripe for humiliation. Their plans for a stag hunt are disrupted when, at night and in the pouring rain, they are abandoned by their game-keeper guide and three of their group killed .
