Palm Springs Intl. Animation Festival to Kick Off Sophomore Year

  • Variety
For the second annual Palm Springs Intl. Animation Festival and Expo, attendees will have a truly immersive experience, as the event will partner with Comic Con Palm Springs and add interactive elements to the screenings.

Festival director Brian Neil Hoff says the idea was to take what fascinates him about animation — the multiple styles and new technologies that bring characters to life — and incorporate that into his festival though virtual reality and spaces that connect to the films. He hopes these additions help the film-loving community in Palm Springs learn more about the animation industry and movies and shorts from around the world.

Following the Psiaf’s debut in 2017, Hoff met with Christopher Spellman, Comic Con Palm Springs founder and executive producer, and the two decided to collaborate — Hoff would select the films while Spellman managed combining his Comic Con with the animation event. Spellman calls the collaboration a “geeky

James Bond 25 Wants Helena Bonham Carter as the Main Villain
After months and years of speculation and rumors, James Bond 25 is finally happening with Daniel Craig returning as 007, and now a new report claims who MGM is eyeing to play the villain. While nothing has been confirmed yet, Helena Bonham Carter is said to be the front runner for the villain role, although many others think that Angelina Jolie is the top choice. Here's what an unidentified insider had to say about the potential casting.

"Everyone thinks Angelina Jolie is going to get the part but bosses want Helena more. At the moment they are just finalising the cast."

It was confirmed just a few weeks ago that Daniel Craig will in fact be back as James Bond, with Danny Boyle taking over the directorial duties for Sam Mendes, who directed the last two 007 movies, the global blockbuster Skyfall and the divisive Spectre. There was also a report from earlier

‘The Crown’: Jason Watkins To Play Harold Wilson, Helena Bonham Carter Confirmed As Princess Margaret On Netflix Series
Jason Watkins has been tapped to play former British Prime Minister Harold Wilson on Netflix’s original drama series The Crown. Additionally, Helena Bonham Carter has been officially confirmed to play Princess Margaret on the upcoming third season, slated to premiere in 2019. She will take over the role played in the first two seasons by Vanessa Kirby.

“I’m not sure which I’m more terrified about – doing justice to the real Princess Margaret or following in the shoes of Vanessa Kirby’s Princess Margaret,” Bonham Carter said. “The only thing I can guarantee is that I’ll be shorter (than Vanessa).”

The second season of The Crown premiered December 8 on Netflix. In it, Margaret married Antony Armstrong-Jones, the Earl of Snowdon (Matthew Goode) and the season ended with her pregnant with one of their children.

On the upcoming third season, Bonham Carter joins two other actors who are taking

‘Rampage’ Sneaks Up on ‘A Quiet Place’ to Win Weekend Box Office

‘Rampage’ Sneaks Up on ‘A Quiet Place’ to Win Weekend Box Office
After a weekend of fluctuating projections, Dwayne Johnson (just barely) owned the North American box office after all.

Though earlier estimates looked like the second frame of “A Quiet Place” would take the weekend, New Line Cinema and Warner Bros.’ “Rampage” snuck up to take the top slot with $34.5 million from 4,101 theaters.

Though the sci-fi actioner has an impressive A- CinemaScore and 80% audience approval on Rotten Tomatoes, “Rampage,” which opened under initial predictions, will need to rely heavily on overseas to carry its costly $120 million budget. The video game adaptation earned $114.1 million internationally, with a worldwide total of $148.6 million.

Jeff Goldstein, president of domestic distribution at Warner Bros.’ attributed the weekend’s numbers to Johnson’s star power.

“Dwayne Johnson is a closer,” Goldstein said. “He’s got an incredible connection with his fanbase. He’s a global draw unlike anybody else today.”

Its North American opening was enough to

‘A Quiet Place’ to Lead Box Office, ‘Rampage’ Debuts at $32 Million
Thanks to strong word of mouth, John Krasinski’s horror film “A Quiet Place” is looking to top the box office for the second weekend in a row with $34 million from 3,589 domestic locations.

Just behind the SXSW success story is Warner Bros.-New Line’s “Rampage” with $32 million from 4,101 sites. Friday’s estimates had adjusted the Dwayne Johnson-starrer’s debut to the $27-$32 million range, with earlier tracking forecasting an opening between $35 and $40 million. “Rampage” earned $11.5 million its opening Friday, including $2.4 million from Thursday previews.

Rampage” garnered $27.1 million on Friday from 61 markets and 38,100 screens. With that, the film has earned a cumulative $36.7 million overseas, opening at No. 1 in China as Warner Bros.’ third-highest debut in the country. Even with the international numbers, the film has a ways to go to recoup its $120 million production budget. Word of mouth could give it a push in the coming weeks, however

  • Deadline

Will The Rock's Rampage Ravage A Quiet Place at the Box Office?

Paramount's low-budget thriller A Quiet Place debuted with an impressive $50 million this weekend, more than double its $17 million budget. While it likely won't suffer a massive drop this weekend, its box office reign will seemingly be a short one. Four more newcomers hit theaters in wide release this weekend, and we're projecting that New Line's monstrous video game adaptation Rampage will come out on top with a projected $42.3 million. This action-adventure will easily beat out Truth or Dare, Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero and Borg vs. McEnroe, along with Isle of Dogs, which is expanding nationwide.

Of the four newcomers, and the expanding Isle of Dogs, Rampage is easily the widest release, projected to open in over 3,950 theaters, with its final count most likely coming over the 4,000 theater mark. Universal's Truth or Dare, the latest from low-budget hit-maker Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Productions company, is slated to arrive in roughly 3,000 theaters,

Will The Rock's Rampage Become Another Jumanji-Sized Hit?

New Line Cinema is getting ready to unleash their video game adaptation Rampage into the world, with the early box office projections for the new Dwayne Johnson action-thriller looking quite solid, although not astronomically impressive. The early projections for Rampage have put its opening weekend at $35 million, just weeks after New Line moved the project up a week from April 20 to April 13, to put some space between this movie and Avengers: Infinity War, after it unexpectedly moved to April 27 from May 4. While Rampage has two weeks before it has to contend with Avengers: Infinity War, it certainly needs to make the best of them.

&#8232The new tracking data released indicated there was a 44% "definite interest" in Rampage, while just 9% of the film's core male audience indicated Rampage was their "first choice." While these numbers may certainly not be impressive, it's worth noting that box office projections can often shift quite greatly,

Rampage Gets Early Release Date, The Rock Shows Off New Posters

Just days after Marvel made the surprise announcement that Avengers: Infinity War will arrive one week earlier, on April 27, New Line is adjusting their slate accordingly by moving Rampage one week as well. Originally scheduled to hit theaters on April 20, the studio has pushed the movie to April 13, with sources claiming that producers want to preserve a "two-week cushion" between Rampage and the surefire blockbuster-to-be, Avengers: Infinity War. Dwayne Johnson also took to social media to announce the new release date, while showcasing a new poster as well, along with all the International versions for it.

The release date push now makes April 13 one of the most crowded dates of the year, with a whopping six movies opening in wide release, although it wouldn't be surprising if at least one of these movies shifts to Rampage's old slot on April 20. As of now, though, Rampage will be going up against

10x10 Trailer Unravels the Secret Behind a Mysterious Abduction

Vertical Entertainment has released the first trailer, poster and photo for 10x10, a new thriller slated to arrive in theaters and on VOD formats April 13. While Luke Evans often plays both heroic and villainous characters alike, his Lewis character in this thriller is quite methodical, plotting his revenge for months, waiting for just the right time to strike, abducting Cathy and holding her against her will in a 10x10 soundproof room, with no way out. As you can see below, there is much more than meets the eye to both the abductor and abductee.

Lewis (Luke Evans) is an outwardly ordinary guy, but in reality he is hiding an obsession, revenge, against Cathy (Kelly Reilly). Just a few days from opening her new business, Cathy's fresh start is interrupted when she is attacked, kidnapped and locked in a room. She assumes the kidnapper wants her body or her life, but he is after something simpler.
