The Birth of Imperial China
deanofrpps16 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is a Chinese made for TV historical romance plotting the career of Ying Si, Lord Huiwen of Qin (Ch'in) who with the help of Premier Khang Hi transformed Qin (Ch'in) from a marginal state on the fringe of the Chinese world into a superpower which would eventually unify China and put an end to the Era of the Warring States, a period of endless war between the Chinese states. How Premier Zhang accomplished Qin's rise to power and Lord Huiwen ascension to the title King was his advocacy of "horizontal alliances," a system of checks and balances, a structure for moderating the conflict between the contending Chinese states. Qin's rivals following unstable vertical alliance that invariably unraveled in the midst of military operations.

Perpetual war has its costs. Eventually King Huiwen loses a brother in combat and falls into a deep depression leading to his demise. The state King Huiwen forged would give China its name.

While the production is magnificent and the music is awe inspiring, it would help if there were more background notes on Chinese history for the benefit of those unfamiliar with Chinese history.

The mighty Qin
alaningle719 January 2022
The epic series which begins with the warring states period through to the eventual unification into one country. It is an interesting and informative watch with an excellent cast. The story mainly revolves around the Qin court and their perspective, and chronicles the constant conflict between states and the diplomacy at that time. We see many battles but not from the perspective of the soldiers as hundreds of thousands die whilst the Kings squabble.

Showed How A Dream of An Empire Became True
siewlimhan18 May 2022
Unlike other Chinese empires' dramas, the kings of Qin set their goal to become the ruler of the entire ancient China from the very beginning, and passed this goal from one generation to next. Though some values from Qin were outdated, the actors and actresses provided an excellent show through their infectious lines. The drama maintained lots of good details to show audiences the ancient China.

Love Fu Delong

Besides getting to learn more about the history etc. I personally think Fu DeLong is a good actor. I like how he has humor. But can be brutal when needed. Qin Empire is one of my favorites. Eye candy too. What a handsome dude in his costume!!

Wonderful show

I beg, do not get fooled by the first episode that seems to appear as a very old and badly made tv series!

Most of Chinese TV series will require some knowledge about Chinese ways and culture.

Not this one, it is very approachable while giving an insanely good description of what China looked like ~300 years B. C.

Learn more about the events happening 2 generations before the unification of China, which would have not be possible otherwise.

Outside of the historical part of this show, I was moved by the actors. They played delightfully well and I've rarely seen such true emotions being displayed. Especially for an "old" tv series such as this one.

I wish it were more popular!
