Storyline

Crash-landing on a foreign planet the crew shelter from a sand-storm in what turns out to be a rehabilitation unit. Here Professor Shaul Telford has cryogenically preserved Hitler, Stalin, Messalina and Vlad the Impaler, having cured them of their evil tendencies. Cat is annoyed that he cannot tempt Messalina whilst Lister angers Rimmer by jamming with a very camp Hitler but when all the Red Dwarf crew discover that someone is trying to murder them they wonder how successful the experiment has been - and whether Cat can be trusted not to side with the psychopathic killer. Trivia

The real Adolf Hitler made an appearance in the series 3 episode Red Dwarf: Timeslides (1989), where Lister entered a photograph of him speaking at the 1934 Nuremberg Rally (archive footage shown with Lister superimposed in) and proceeded to heckle him and then (offscreen) get into a fight with him. However in this episode they actually bond with each other. See more »

Goofs

Lister jams with Hitler on guitar. However in previous episodes, Lister could only play the guitar badly. Here he plays the guitar competently. See more »

Quotes

Kryten: There's a long held belief that memories are indeed encoded into DNA and passed down the ancestral line, which explains why human have seemingly inexplicable phobias.
Rimmer: Like?
Kryten: Fear of rats, for example.
Rimmer: Fear of rats, descendants beware, they spread bubonic plague.
Kryten: Precisely.
Cat: Fear of clowns?
Lister: Descendants beware of weird looking children's entertainers, they can be really dodgy?

Red Dwarf on top form

This is a clever episode, funny, and with no "fat" -- everything is essential to the story.

Can evil be cured? A nice sci-fi topic, and handled very well here, with interesting reactions from the Dwarf crew and a strong ending.

I thought season X was good, season XI was better; XII is off to a promising start.
