Beautifully crafted feel good film of the year

Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum stars Vijay Sethupathi and Madonna Sebastian in lead roles. Sethupathi is a superb actor and has proved once again with this film as a tough-acting thug with a tender heart. Madonna is a perfect fit for the role of a fresher looking for a job in IT industry, This film is a light hearted take on the issues they face in their daily lives and shows the friendship that blossoms between them over time into a beautiful romance. The action scenes, the lead chemistry, the comical portions and almost everything else in the movie is realistic for most parts.

Accompanied by an engaging screenplay, terrific musical score by Santosh Narayanan and pleasing songs, Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum is a winning light hearted love story and a must watch for any season.

Sweet, Breezy, Lovable that's what KaKaPo is. (Strictly no spoilers)

After making a black comedy film like Soodhu Kavvum the only thing you expect from Nalan is another laughter riot like the previous one and both Nalan and the producer clearly knows this. If you are expecting it to be a laughter riot, no it is not.

Thinking in the way how a modern girl falling in love with a local goon has become such a clinch in our kollywood industry, The film the way it is taken (especially the climax) makes total sense. Maybe this one is Nalan's stereotype in proving it right.

Yes the film is inspired from 'my dear desperado' but the way how Nalan makes this film in our chennai style adding engineering unemployment to the background you after to thank Nalan for it. The film could have been easily turned into an non sensible laughter riot but Nalan's light heated sense and making makes this love lovable with right amount of cute laughable scenes.

Thank you Nalan Kumarasamy and CV Kumar for this film. With Nalan and Karthik Subbaraj our future of kollywood is in safe hands.

Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum (2016): Vijay Sethupathi,Madonna Sebastian playing lead roles.Directed by Soodhu Kavvum fame Nalan Kumaraswamy.Produced by my favorite person C.V.Kumar and music by brilliant Santhosh Narayan.Any movie lover does not wish more than this.Such most talented people joined for this best entertainer Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum.So how is it??

Plot: Inspired by 2010 Korean movie My Dear Desperado,KaKaPo deals with two unlikely people. Kathir (Vijay Sethupathi) who is a wannabe rowdy, whose only aim is to run a bar on his own. He is just back from five years of prison life and it was for his area councilor, who promised him to provide a posh life. Then, we have Yalini (Madonna Sebastian) who loses her IT job during recession and due to financial crisis, she stays in the small flat opposite Kathir. The rest of the film is all about how these two people with drastically different dreams gel with ease and develop a liking for each other.

Plus Points: 1)Screenplay and Direction: Screenplay is entertaining at its best.It has lot of laugh out loud moments and also cute feel good moments.There is not even a dingle boring scene in this entire movie.Few scenes are remarkable and really makes us to watch it again and again.Last half and hour is truly one of the best moments in recent times. Nalan Kumaraswamy really is such brilliant director.Even if this is a remake he showed his own mark of dark comedy.

2)Performances: Performances are major asset to movie.Vijay Sethupathi is one of the rare actors who redefines the meaning of so called unbeatable hero.He can play underplayed roles with so much ease.He truly is a gem.Madonna Sebastian is so cute and came up with brilliant performance.I started loving her more after this movie.Others also played their roles without flaws.

3)Music: Santhosh Narayan came up with amazing music.Both his songs and BGM are awesome.BGM really helped a lot for carrying movie's feel.KaKaKaPo song is best song of the album.

So Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum is best entertaining movie of 2016 with brilliant performances,entertaining screenplay,topnotch direction and amazing music.

generally the romance movies are clichés.but this one is different.unlike other blunder action stars in tamil, vijay sethupathy's role in the movie is just a common man like all of us.his mistakes, mindsets and simple thoughts are the subject of this movie.even though there is not much romantic scenes in the movie, i think this one of the best Indian romantic movie i had ever seen.a feel good comedy as well as an emotional film that satisfy all the elements needed for a good film viewer.

The director, Nalan Kumarasamy's second directional film. His First, 'Soodhu Kavvum' was a massive hit and now back with this retaining the same lead actor. I did not remember the original Korean film this one was based on, but while watching it, I remembered some of the parts. I think the directed did well, because it is not easy to keep up to the original standards. And as usual Vijay Sethupathi did not disappoint me.

The Madonna Sebatian's Tamil debut film and she was wonderful. This story was told from her perspective, well mostly, particularly in the first half. The story of an engineering graduate who comes to the regional capital, Chennai, seeking a job in an IT company. As she struggles to get one in this competitive world, meets her new neighbour, a thug who often bumps each other and needlessly have quarrels. But later everything softens between them, because the two are struggling in their life somewhat similarly. So one another, they comfort each other during tough times, till one day when things forever changes in their life.

For Kollywood and its fans, this is an extraordinary piece. But for the international viewers, I'm sure you would have seen such films, even though it is worth a watch. The young filmmaker changing the Kollywood landscape. Soon film like this will become mainstream films and the big actor films would turn into the parallel films. Simple story, yet many interesting stuff happens. Todays condition of IT professionals were highlighted quite factfully. It was more a friendship kind of film, but there are enough fun. So I definitely recommended it to everyone, especially if you know the language, don't miss it.

Review – Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum (2016)

I read somewhere that this movie was initially titled "Eskimo Kadhal" before the makers finally fixed on "Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum". And there is a scene where the heroine refers to the male protagonist as a dog that eskimos cuddle and hug to keep themselves warm during the biting cold weather. The guy responds by asking "Naaaya?" in the quirkiest way possible. It is precisely this sort of cleverly written dialogue that make Ka Ka Po worth a watch at the cinema hall. I just wish there were more people with me to appreciate or hoot or laugh their guts out when they were actually supposed to. Nalan (of Soodhu Kavvum fame) crafts his second film in a manner that completely overturns traditional rom-com clichés. We even have the typical hero-saves-heroine-from-the-horny-bad-guy scene. But all that is done with such elan and finesse that the viewer buys it without hesitation. Vijay Sethupathi has time n' again proved to be the go-to guy for roles like these. He is basically a thug, with some forced swag, but also one with a heart. We have seen countless number of masala flicks where the heroine instantly falls in love the hero when he merely flexes his muscles while beating up some twenty or thirty odd goons in a street ^vegetables and colored-powder fly in the air^. In this case, the fights are concise and shot judiciously. The funny moments are sprinkled throughout and at times, you need to be a real good observer to notice the hilarious puns. The ROFL moments happen during a bar fight and an interview respectively. I won't reveal how Nalan and Sethupathi pull it off because it NEEDS to be seen and cherished. Another aspect of the film that warrants admiration is the scintillating background score and music by Santhosh Narayanan. The pulsating "Pangaali" track is apt for the 'Sethupathi-goes-full- on-rogue' scenes while "Ka Ka Ka Po" hands out the kuthu song on a platter to the viewer. The BGM is generally breezy and gels well with the proceedings. It is definitely worth mentioning that Madonna has nailed her first full-blown character with consummate ease. Unlike 'Naanum RowdyDhaan' which was a black comedy full of hilarious characters apart from Sethupathi's and Nayantara's (such as RJ Balaji, the old man who plays 'Rahul', the interracial Pondy couple, Anandaraj, Parthiban and so on), Ka Ka Po rather revolves completely around the two leads. Credit should be given to Sethupathi and Madonna for completely holding our attention since they take up almost 95% of the movie's run-time. Nalan may not have attained the levels of Soodhu Kavvum in terms of hilarity, nonetheless pulls off his second venture quite eloquently by not playing to the galleries instead providing the intelligent cinema- goer with enough matter to chew on. Okay, maybe not two thumbs-up but most certainly deserving of 'one-and-a-half'. Keep up the good work Nalan and crew. Looking forward to your next!

Unexpected Movie

Unlike all other movies really this movie is too different. Director nalankantan was superb Unexpected things from Director: 1. The extraordinary story he wrote and the its not look like written story with hand and its look like real time story written from heart 2. Screenplay of the movie was awesome. 3. Dialogs was superb Unexpected things from Actors: 1. I don't want to say vijay sethupati and madona as hero and heroine because they never shown the stardom. 2. They shown their acting skill 100% in this movie

The plot is so simple. Nalan style of Narration is different. He Executes his skills in writing. The dialogues arengood with humour touch. Vijay Sethupathi is always Good. But there is no scope for his range of performance. Madona looks beauty and childish. Her best Performance comes at Pre interval sequences. Climax is but lengthy but ok. Songs are good. Locations are apt. Watch it for humour .Neat Comedy.

A Breezy Entertainer

Nalan Kumarasamy delivers it all!! A breezy comedy drama with excellent execution and brilliant screenplay and Mesmerizing performances from Madonna & Vijay Sethupathy. Story revolves around an ambitious girl from a local village who arrives Chennai City and befriends with a local goon and changes their lives forever. Madonna beautifully protrays Yazhini and she was very good in emotions and dialogue presentations. Vijay Sethupathi, of course, didn't let me down as the local goon and he played his role very easily. Samutthirakkani who played the baddie has got nothing much to do mut he didn't wasted the role. Although the movie is based on Two lead characters, the other actors performed well and added more spice to this delicious movie. Santhosh Narayanan delivered excellent soundtrack which was close to the script and the songs were placed well. The tracks were composed in a local village tone and was very hummable. Cinematography was excellent especially the raining parts. Editing was top notch which provided a racy movie with no boring parts. A worth watch in every sense. Thanks to Nalan Kumarasamy to deliver a brilliant feel fresh movie. The main advantage of the movie are no macho heroism and boring romantic scenes. My rating 8.5 on 10

Realistic love stories and small romance. More to say, less is always crispy. Crew and cast is awesome. be it a watchman or a hero, the choice is perfectly good. The story line is very practical. Any girl, would like her man to stand up for her, protect her, be a friend, cool attitude of making her chase her dreams. whatever, the guy is , the girl will fall in love. Girl character is so entwined with all sentiments and good display of emotions and simple way is always excellent. Director has done a very good job. Music is unbeatable. Dialogue is like it can happen in everyday conversation. Any person who is a rowdy will behave the same way as a hero, but his depression of not having a good education, a life is visible in the way he helps the people around him, be it small kids who steal products or a person who is ready to go for jail because of innocence and that guy at last saves hero's life back is the highlight of the climax. Once, hero realises, he had been used, he moves away changes into a different man. This love story is my all time favorite.

Definitely something new... But 'new' need not necessarily be interesting always

Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum stars Vijay Sethupathi and Madonna Sebastian in the lead. Vijay Sethupathi as Kathiravan plays an aspiring bar owner and Madonna Sebastian as Yazhini-an IT graduate from a typical middle class family. As always (Vijay Sethupathi) and as expected (Madonna Sebastian), the lead pair have done a decent job. BGM score by Santhosh Narayan is fair enough throughout the movie, and nicely peaks at crucial points. But the movie impresses in patches which includes a stunt sequence, interview embarrassing job seekers and of course the climax. These stuff aren't sufficient enough to keep you engaged in a romantic-drama that lacks balance between romance and drama. On the whole, it can be a good one time watch.

A must watch romantic comedy

It's been so long since i watched a Love story with such great feel, very engaging story and great acting by Vijay Sethupathi as usual and premam fame Madonna Sebastian, vijay sethupathi on screen cchemistry is as gud that u will totally feel the best of the movie through out the runtime. I really appreciate the Director for bringing this cast to life and wonderful taking of the scenes.

Coming to Music, u know Santhosh narayanan always gives his best not for just a song in a movie but everysong is good at its genre. Background score is also good. people ought to know Santhosh Narayan, just watch Madras movie by Karthi the movie is best and every background score is off the charts in it. keep going, I give this movie 10/10 for its fantastic cast and presentation.

A pleasant guessing game

This is one delightful romantic comedy movie that leaves you perpetually guessing what is the kind of relationship that the hero and heroine will have, in the end. It is the story of an evolving friendship between an unlikely pair with only a slight hint of romance in it. A remake of the Korean movie "My Dear Desperado", director Nalan Kumarasamy has done a fabulous job of moulding it into a local template. Generously sprinkled with comical dialogues and expressions, it takes you on a fun-filled ride throughout. Vijay Sethupathi and Madonna share a very cute chemistry that lasts throughout the movie. It's a pity that their other movies together (Junga and Kavan) did not portray them in a similar equation. Many of the scenes are like a guessing game. There is a particular scene in which Madonna gifts Vijay Sethupathi an expensive watch and hints at marriage, but he laughs it off, leaving you wondering whether he has any feelings for her. And as you're wondering, she gives him a grateful hug which he doesn't refuse. There is yet another scene in which once again, you're left wondering what is really going on in their minds. Madonna passes her job interview and waits at the flat to convey the good news to Vijay Sethupathi, but he purposely avoids meeting her. Even at the end, they meet and smile at each other, but you're still left guessing what happens next. Santhosh Narayanan's background music elevates the fun mood of this movie throughout. There is a noteworthy soft piano track during a romantic scene which is lovely. A feel-good movie that has few flaws except that viewers would have been happier had the climax been more conclusive.

A Fun and Love filled journey

Can someone delivers a love story without any romantic scenes and love dialogues? Is it possible? Yes, it's possible and Director Nalan Kumarasamy has delivered such an entertaining love story with hand full of comedy scenes. Nalan Kumarasamy-Vijay Sethupathi combo worked again perfectly after Soothu Kavvum. Vijay Sethupathi and Madonna Sebastian stole the show with great performances. They're Probably one of the best on screen pair of recent times.

A few comic moments don't make a movie good

Movies either are dreamy and allow an escape from the harsh reality, or show the gritty reality with an aim to evoke connections with the audience. This falls somewhere in the center. Despite interesting performances from the leads, this is not a very engaging film. . The fight scenes are natural with good characterisation of the villain. Yet, we are not sure what the director wants to achieve with the direction the stories take us through.

This is a subtle attempt at showing the different people living in a city. Yet, this is shown without the overreaching drama that spoils many such attempts and this alone is worth appreciating. Some people who might connect with the characters and want a similar escape might enjoy the movie. For the normal people, I am not sure this is an appealing movie. Overall, for Vijay Sethupathi fans this could be an underwhelming film too.
