The film's Welsh title, "Y Llyfrgell" (The Library), is the same as that of the original novel on which the film is based. The Welsh word llyfrgell literally means "book cell". Fflur Dafydd (the author of the novel and scriptwriter of the film) has explained how - that resonance being absent from the English word "library" - the film's producers took the decision to use the longer title "The Library Suicides" when referring to the film in English.
