25 Star Trek Characters Reimagined As Villains

The Star Trek franchise has had some pretty incredible villains. From Khan to the Borg to the Dominion and back to the Borg, Gene Roddenberry’s optimistic series about an idealized version of humanity certainly has its dark moments. For the most part, however, Star Trek's main characters have all been pretty married to the straight and narrow.

That’s what makes campy conceits like the Mirror Universe so much fun for fans to play with. Introduced in the classic Original Series episode “Mirror, Mirror” and recently revisited in Star Trek: Discovery, the Mirror Universe was just an alternate reality where everyone is the worst version of themselves – a universe of evil twins, if you will. Seeing the goody two-shoes officers of Starfleet become mustache-twirling villains of the highest degree is decadent fun from a "what might have been" standpoint.

This is a list showcasing artistic renderings of Star Trek

Rainn Wilson’s portrayal of Harry Mudd was one of the many things fans loved about Season 1 of Star Trek: Discovery, and it looks like CBS is gearing up to bring the crafty villain back for another adventure judging from this latest tease (via Cbr):

Guess who’s back!? #HarryMudd Big announcement on Thursday from @StarTrekCBS! pic.twitter.com/snqpAfxE3o

— RainnWilson (@rainnwilson) September 16, 2018

Wilson doesn’t explicitly say Mudd will return for Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery, and that all will be revealed in an announcement on Thursday. We’re thinking this means we’re going to learn Mudd is the subject of one or two episodes of Star Trek: Short Treks, a new short-form series of adventures meant to further flesh out the world of Star Trek: Discovery. American Gods showrunner exits, season two reportedly in “disarray”

Starz doesn’t seem to be having much luck when it comes to the second season of its Neil Gaiman adaptation American Gods.

Season one showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green exited the series back in November of last year, with actress Gillian Anderson choosing to follow them. The network then enlisted Jesse Alexander, who previously worked with Fuller on Star Trek: Discovery and Hannibal, to serve as co-showrunner on season two with author Neil Gaiman.

However, THR is reporting that Alexander has now been “sidelined” from his position, and was asked to stop working on the series around a month ago. Although it’s said the word “fired” hasn’t been used by producers Fremantle, Alexander “has been asked not to sit in on editing, be involved on set or participate in any other areas of production or postproduction”, in what THR’s source describes as “fired but not fired.

Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg discuss Captain Marvel

After working their magic on the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Michael Douglas, Kurt Russell and Michelle Pfeiffer, Marvel’s digital de-aging wizards will next turn their attention to Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg as the duo make their S.H.I.E.L.D. return in the 90s-set Captain Marvel.

Speaking to EW, Jackson has revealed how his ninth outing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will feature a very different Nick Fury – and not just in terms of him having two eyes.

“I’ll read something, and I’ll read it as present Nick Fury, and I’ll go, ‘He would never do this,’” said Jackson. “And I go, ‘Oh, wait a minute. He’s not in that place yet.’ The Nick Fury we meet is sort of a bureaucrat in an interesting sort of way. He hadn’t become jaded or a slave to the cynicism that we normally see.
