In the stark beauty of 19th Century Snowdonia a young girl tries desperately to hold her home together. Struggling with her mother's mysterious illness, her father's absence and a ruthless mining company encroaching on their land. A growing darkness begins to take grip of her home, and the suspicious local community turns on Gwen and her family.
Or maybe its actually more of a folk story... because it doesn't start out like a full blown horror film. More of a moody pastoral drama, but by the climax its full on filthily farm yard terror. Which is extremely my thing. Beautiful landscapes and captivating performances. Snowdonia almost steals the show from the brilliant cast, but not quite. Sublime, atmospheric and epic, this film is a real chill and I'm still thinking about it days later. Uncanny and eerie to the bone.
My only complaint is that the Welsh where actually far more forgiving of Witchcraft than their English and Scottish cousins.
