Trivia

Angela Lansbury's character, described as "the balloon lady," asks Michael Banks whether he remembers what it is like to be a child. In Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971), also adapted from a popular children's book, Lansbury's character, the apprentice witch Eglantine Price, shared lessons about leaving childhood behind and struggling with "the age of not believing." Therefore, Lansbury's character in the 2018 sequel could be interpreted as a nod to the 1971 film, often considered a sister film to Mary Poppins (1964), or, had the period setting permitted, perhaps even the same character. Goofs

In the London street scenes, several of the buses shown are too old for the 1930s setting. For instance, the buses are shown with 'outside' staircases to the upper deck, whereas those designs (from post-WWI) had been superseded by then by designs with enclosed staircases. See more »

Slow Start, Long Movie
22 December 2018 | by kklein-70836See all my reviews

I can't begin to say how excited I was for this movie. I've been waiting over a year for it. We brought my daughter to see it with her friends for her 6th birthday. It was a complete disappointment. The start was slow, music was forgettable, the kids were scared during a few parts, and Emily Blunt was too cold for Mary Poppins. The movie was over two hours long. The kids were restless and never really got into it. One kid from our group wanted to go to the car instead of finishing the movie. I wanted to like this so bad. What a shame.
