Unlike Mary Poppins (1964), this film (or all its live-action footage) was shot in the story's indigenous English setting with natural outdoors; the 1964 original was an entirely indoors film (i.e., even outdoor scenes were shot in the Disney Studio sound stages in Burbank. Similarly, at the same time the 1964 original was being filmed in Burbank, the other 1912-English set musical My Fair Lady (1964) was being filmed in the sound stages of rival Warner Brothers Studio in nearby Glendale. So the close-knit band of "English-type" Hollywood bit players (who played "English" extras) was doubly busy during that summer-fall season of 1963). This is profoundly one of the years very best pictures! It is filled with pure bliss and the magic Disney has been aiming to possess is finally here and even better than expected. It is a genuine musical with great tunes and fun, poppy, meaningful lyrics that help tell the meaning of the story. Emily Blunt is outstanding and exceptional in this role as Mary Poppins, she makes the character her own and knocks it right out of the ball park with her excellent vocals and range! What a cast! The entire ensemble does an outstanding job working together and that is really how this film works is because of each meaning the character has to the story. Last but definitely not least, Rob Marshall does a fantastic job directing the entire film, there is no one else who could have revived the magic disney once had. I expect it to get nominated at the Academt Awards for Best Picture, Actress, Director and more! We should also expect to see Emily Blunt wins Best Actress at the Golden Globes and more! Extremely impressed and planning to see it in theatres for a second time. Highly recommend to see Christmas Weekend!
