Plot Summary

Christine "Lady Bird" McPherson (Saoirse Ronan) is a high-school senior from the "wrong side of the tracks". She longs for adventure, sophistication, and opportunity, but finds little of that in her Sacramento Catholic high school. Her senior year improves: she finds her first romance, participates in the school play, and--most importantly--applies for college. Written by Dehlia

Did You Know?

Edit
Trivia Saoirse Ronan had done some stage work before filming this movie, and the heavy makeup combined with hot stage lights had caused some spontaneous acne eruptions. Rather than covering it up, make-up artists Jacqueline Knowlton and Ronan convinced the writer and director Greta Gerwig to leave it visible to differentiate this movie from most other coming-of-age dramas full of teenagers with perfect skin. Gerwig concurred. See more »
