Russian madness
Leofwine_draca4 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
MAXIMUM IMPACT is a bizarre Russian comedy thriller, made with a rather distinguished cast (in the world of B-movies at least) and a sluggish, meandering storyline that does little more than join the dots between dialogue scenes. Sadly, the comedy is of the extremely quirky variety, and also happens to be excruciatingly unfunny, which lessens the enjoyability quite a bit. Cast-wise, we get an extremely hammy Mark Dacascos as the baddie, boring Russian heroes, and cameos from the likes of Danny Trejo, Bai Ling, Tom Arnold and more besides. Kelly Hu is one of the film's biggest assets and deserves better, and as for the green screen scenes - just no.

Maximum Stupid

I got only forty minutes into the movie before turning it off. I couldn't take the bad acting, the lame action, not to mention the constant sexual jokes that weren't even funny. I was hoping since Mark Dacascos and Danny Trejo were in the movie, it might just be ok, and the trailer honestly didn't look too bad...well, I found out that you can't always trust movie trailers, especially with low budget production movies such as this one.

NEVSKY (The Real last name is Kurytsin, that in Russian means - Chicken).
losangelestime19 October 2019
This is a money laundry "movie making" project of Nevsky and his thug team, that do not mind filming predictably horrible "Hollywood Blockbusters" as Nevsky loves to name his lame "masterpieces". A talentless narcissistic anabolic user wants to look not less than Arnold and Sylvester, while not really understanding what he actually is. If you want to ruin a couple of hours of your precious life and tease your brain on dumb and extreme visuals, along with laughably bad acting of Nevsky and his circus group, then get to see at least a couple of his "movies", and regret about that decision later on. Guaranteed.

12 minutes in and i decided this wasn't the movie for me. which is a shame, as there are a few recognisable faces in the cast, and i'm sure they can do much better than this...i can only imagine they were desperate for the money?

two is a generous score

Painful to watch, so very.

There are some pretty decent actors in this with a potentially good story. All wasted with a terrible script with little action or comedy full of mugging for the camera instead of any attempt at performing. Terrible!

Worst performances u can imagine
joyjoyhiponess28 August 2019
The worst interpretations of actors who, a few years ago, seemed to know how to play. A sad scenario, a sad director, well-known actors who seem worse than amateurs. Shy.

Run from this movie!
rdunek99-117 June 2019
OMG, this is one of the worst movies ever made and that is saying A LOT! Mediocre cast, unbelievably stupid script. Its amazing that ANYONE would actually write those words into a script. One awful racial and sexual stereotype after another.

Disgusting!

Primitive

Very primitive. Primitive jokes. The budget is the same as John Wick. But quality is 100 times worse. As all Nevski movies, this one is made for money laundry.

Maximum Impact wears out its welcome quickly and leaves minimal impact on the viewers.

Warning: Spoilers
When Secretary of State Robert Jacobs (Roberts) travels to Russia on an important mission, his teenage daughter Brittany (Butorina) tags along. The main reason she does this is so she can run off with a boy band pop star she's been texting with. This seems like the ideal time for a baddie named Tony Lin (Dacascos) and his sidekick Ian (Hues) to kidnap her.

After a lot of bumbling around, they finally manage to do this, and so an American CIA (?) agent named Kate (Hu) has to team up with a Russian FSB strongman named Maxim Kadurin (Nevsky) to save the girl, and, if time allows, her date. As if that wasn't enough, a criminal mastermind of some sort named Sanchez (Trejo) and his goons are causing trouble all over Russia. How do Barnes (Arnold), Scanlon (Ling), and, perhaps most enigmatically, "Man In Shadows" (Baldwin) all fit into this picture?

Much like director Bartkowiak's prior Exit Wounds (2001), Maximum Impact is a mix of action and comedy that features Tom Arnold. The emphasis this time around seems firmly on the side of comedy, even though there are some silly and not entirely serious fight scenes and some car chases, both of which appear to be green screen-enhanced. Stick with Exit Wounds. Or, also featuring Dacascos, Drive (1997).

The jokey tone and childish dialogue start to get tiresome after a while, and expecting the viewer to tolerate this over the course of an inexcusable 109-minute running time is just asking too much. On the plus side, it has a lot of energy and a fast pace, but it just goes on and on too long.

Yes, there are fruit cart chases and a lovely framed Eric Roberts picture on the wall, but on the other end of the spectrum there are green screen missiles and helicopters, teenagers texting, and dialogue that mentions Instagram and Snapchat. Have we really fallen that far from Charles Bronson blowing away the bad guys with a rocket launcher? If this is truly the state of action in 2017, we'll stick with the old classics, please.

There are too many people in the cast to really break down fully, but let's just say this is a classic case of Lone Tiger Effect. Hell, it even has Matthias Hues, as if to underline the point that much more. Did all these people know they were signing on for a goofy comedy? It has all the Bartkowiak trademarks, such as putting hip hop beats under the dialogue scenes, and a wacky coda during the credits.

William Baldwin just makes wacky faces into a screen. There's a place called Grump International Plaza. Tom Arnold's running gag is about his bladder. We could go on, but we won't. That being said, Alexander Nevsky somehow manages to come out of all this relatively unscathed. Maybe that's because he's credited as a producer on the film.

Comedies and action movies shouldn't be more than 90 minutes. Don't filmmakers know this by now? Maximum Impact wears out its welcome quickly and leaves minimal impact on the viewers.

Funny as hell..
andrew_jakobs8 July 2019
After reading the reviews here, I just had to see it for myself. I went in with expecting the worst movie ever, but don't really agree with the other reviewers. It's a very entertaining movie. Yes it stars c-rate actors and the acting isn't great, nor is the story (but hell, most blockbusters have even worse generic stories). If you expect a good big budget action movie, yep, then you should just pass this on. But this movie is better than most of Steven Seagall's latest movies. But again, don't expect anything, and certainly nothing serious.

bad
SnoopyStyle23 June 2021
The U. S. Secretary of State is in Moscow for a negotiation. After a failed attack on his helicopter, his granddaughter runs away with kidnappers in pursuit. Agents of the CIA and Russian Secret Service FSB must work together after assuming that she has been kidnapped.

I assume this to be a Russian production paid by some Russian big wig. They've recruited a whole bunch of Hollywood B-list actors. You know it's bad when it includes Tom Arnold. It's bad writing in a bad B-movie. The heavy accents are annoying. Worst of all are the bad attempts at comedy. It's horrible writing with awkwardly broad silliness. I have to question the scriptwriter whose claim to fame seems to be Rush Hour. I do appreciate that this has some real car action even if some of it looks badly done. At least, they wrecked a few cars. Overall, it's stupid and badly written. Every time the words "Baby Bear" came up, I cringed. It's all stupid.

Just another Garbage of untalented steroid carrier.
maxworld-859411 May 2019
Lame, talentless, pointless, worthless. Those four words will do. The most awful "movie" we have seen in 2018. Nevsky is historically the worst actor of the planet. How he manages that, is beyond anyone's understanding.

A combination of a few C-list actors, bad actors and a silly script....'nuff said about this one.
planktonrules3 February 2022
Currently, "Maximum Impact" has an overall score of 2.1 on IMDB....a truly horrible score. This could easily mean the film will make IMDB's infamous Bottom 100 List....and perhaps it will once it receives the minimum number of votes needed for inclusion.

The film is very unusual in that it appears to be a Russian-American joint effort. But the filmmakers obviously didn't have a lot of clout or money, and so the 'stars' in the film are a lot of C-list Americans as well as newcomers who are even worse. So, if you are a die-hard fan of Danny Trejo, Tom Arnold or Eric Roberts, you might want to watch it...but I couldn't recommend it because of everything else about the film. And, of the three, Arnold clearly has the worst written character.

The story involves a weird criminal/terrorist played by Mark Dacascos (the 'Chairman' on the "Iron Chef America" series). He wants to provoke a world war by assassinating the US Secretary of State (Roberts) as well as kidnapping the Secretary's REALLY annoying granddaughter. So, it's up to the American and Russian secret police to stop the baddies.

In addition to poor acting, the script is filled with incredibly bad dialog and ridiculous characters. There's really not much good I can say about it other than its nice location shoots. This and some polish mean that I cannot really give the film a 1...though 2 seems reasonable and well earned.

Brilliant!
minunimion9 October 2022
WOW! A bunch of bad reviews... fortunately I didn't care as a lot of people are just envious and they think that acting is easy, like sitting their asses on the chair and writing idiotic reviews because of their frustration to not to be someone. They are real actors and probably rich and you're just losers who think to be important writing useless pathetic reviews. You'll never do anything in your life, so go on writing bad reviews, because it's the only thing you can do. You'll never have a chance to act and become famous like these actors that you despise so much. Shame to all of you! Grow up!

Anyway, let's talk about this movie, brilliant! I really had a lot of fun, I absolutely liked it, not an Oscar movie, pure entertainment for almost a couple of hours. All the actors were very good and there are many important and famous actors. I'm not going to talk about the plot, but the screenplay was OK and the director did a good job. It's important to take this movie as it is, without big expectations. If you do that, then you'll enjoy it, otherwise you can get disappointed. Many of the actors are really famous martial artists and of course you have to like the genre. It's a really decent action movie imbued with a little humor, some fun and a good car chasing.
