Film Review: ‘The Desert Bride’

Film Review: ‘The Desert Bride’
It’s a wonderful thing to be proven wrong after declaring a little-known character actor to have had a once-in-a-career moment — when that unforeseen breakthrough merely paves the way for an unexpectedly fruitful career. So it is with Chile’s Paulina Garcia, whose vibrant late-career performance in 2013’s “Gloria” turned out to be a fixed bolt from the blue, its reverberations running the gamut from TV’s “Narcos” to Ira Sachs’ “Little Men.” Now, in Cecilia Atán and Valeria Pivato’s wistfully gorgeous miniature “The Desert Bride,” it has a true and worthy companion piece.

Another story of middle-aged female loneliness and displacement, Atán and Pivato’s anecdote-scaled film is presented through a quieter, more fragile narrative prism than “Gloria’s,” as a repressed domestic worker’s unplanned pit stop en route to a new job opens the narrowest of windows onto a new life altogether. It’s a loving

Considered the founder of modern linguistics, Chomsky has written more than 100 books, his most recent being Requiem for the American Dream: The 10 Principles of Concentration of Wealth & Power. Idris Elba still wants to make a Dark Tower sequel

The future of Sony and Mrc’s planned Dark Tower franchise seems to be up in the air at the moment following the box office failure of this year’s Stephen King adaptation.

A potential TV series remains in development – which according to King will be a reboot – but in an interview with The Radio Times, actor Idris Elba has revealed that he’s hoping for a second big screen outing as the Gunslinger:

“I think any TV series that is an offshoot from the film can have more time to explore some themes. I’d personally prefer to do another Dark Tower film, exploring some more of the gunslinger – as a film. I don’t know much about where they are with the TV show – but I think there’s definitely talks to try and do another one.”

Given that The Dark Tower managed to gross just $111.8 million worldwide following its release in August,

The Dark Tower TV series will be a complete reboot, says Stephen King

Sony’s big screen adaptation of The Dark Tower may have been a critical and commercial failure, but it seems that the planned TV series Wizard and Glass remains a possibility – although as author Stephen King has revealed to Vulture, should this move ahead, it will likely be a complete reboot with no ties to the feature film.

“The major challenge was to do a film based on a series of books that’s really long, about 3,000 pages,” said King. “The other part of it was the decision to do a PG-13 feature adaptation of books that are extremely violent and deal with violent behavior in a fairly graphic way. That was something that had to be overcome, although I’ve gotta say, I thought [screenwriter] Akiva Goldsman did a terrific job in taking a central part of the book and turning it into what I thought was a pretty good movie.

Stephen King explains what went wrong with The Dark Tower

Author Stephen King has explained why he feels The Dark Tower wasn’t a success.

The Dark Tower wasn’t a total disaster but it didn’t blow any doors off either, and it failed to excite audiences in the same way King’s book series had done in the past.

Putting out his own theories on why the film didn’t come together as well as it could have, King told Vulture during a recent interview that the movie’s age rating was a contributing factor.

“The major challenge was to do a film based on a series of books that’s really long, about 3,000 pages. The other part of it was the decision to do a PG-13 feature adaptation of books that are extremely violent and deal with violent behavior in a fairly graphic way. Spider-Man: Homecoming becomes the highest-grossing superhero movie of the year

Earlier this month, Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming became the highest-grossing reboot of all time, thanks in no small part to its solid opening in China, and now the film has overtaken Wonder Woman and Guardians of the Galaxy to become the biggest superhero movie of the year so far.

Spider-Man: Homecoming overtakes Wonder Woman at the global box office

Spurred on by an impressive $70.8 million opening weekend in China – the third-biggest for a superhero movie – Spider-Man: Homecoming has pushed its global haul to $822.8 million today, surpassing fellow superhero blockbuster Wonder Woman, which has earned $816.3 million to date.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming finally made its way to the Middle Kingdom this weekend, with the Sony and Marvel produced reboot enjoying a solid $22.2 million opening day, with a further $1.5 million in Friday previews. The wall-crawler’s solo McU debut has now amassed a worldwide haul of $770 million, making it the highest-grossing reboot of all time – a record previously held by 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man on $757 million.

According to projections from Forbes, Homecoming will likely pass $800 million globally this weekend thanks to its debut in China, and could potentially reach as high as $880 million – which would put it ahead of Wonder Woman ($814 million) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($863 million) to make it the biggest superhero movie of the year so far. However, to become the highest-grossing entry in the Spider-Man franchise it would need to shift a few more tickets however, with 2007’s Spider-Man 3 sitting on $891 million.
