‘Pokemon Detective Pikachu’: Hear Ryan Reynolds Voice Pikachu in First Trailer

Warner Bros. released the first trailer for the Pokémon franchise’s debut live-action film, Pokémon Detective Pikachu, which stars Ryan Reynolds voicing the CGI-rendered Pikachu.

In a departure from the long-running animated series, this Pikachu speaks English, but character Tim Goodman, played by Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’s Justice Smith, is the only human who can understand the creature. (Pokémon and humans have historically understood one another despite linguistic barriers; some Pokémon in prior installments of the franchise have communicated in human languages.)

The trailer introduces viewers to the live-action Pokémon world,

Here's The First Trailer Detective Pikachu Starring Ryan Reynolds

Legendary Pictures has released the first trailer for the live-action/CG animated hybrid Pokemon film Detective Pikachu. The movie looks pretty much what I expected it to be. It’s filled with lots of silliness, cheesy charm, and Pokemon. This is the little synopsis that was released with the trailer:

In a world where people collect pocket-size monsters (pokemon) to do battle, a boy comes across an intelligent monster who seeks to be a detective.

The cast for the film includes Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) as Pikachu, Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies), Ken Watanabe (Inception), Suki Waterhouse (Revenge), Rita Ora (Fifty Shades Freed) and Bill Nighy (Gideon’s Daughter).

The story of Detective Pikachu centers around Smith’s character’s father getting kidnapped. He teams up with Pikachu (Reynolds) to help find him. Newton plays a journalist who helps them on their quest. Ken Watanabe

China Box Office: ‘Venom’ $102 Million Opening Juices Slack Theatrical Market
Tom Hardy-starring “Venom” injected some much-needed juice into the Chinese box office, with a blockbuster $102 million first weekend opening. The film crushed other new releases and holdovers alike.

Data from Artisan Gateway, which excludes online ticketing fees, shows the superhero film gobbling up 73% of the entire Chinese box office this weekend. Second-placed Japanese animation, “Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer,” took $10.6 million, or a 7.5% share.

The strong performance of “Venom” is a useful fillip for the Chinese theatrical market, which has suffered a string of sub-$100 million cumulative totals by the top-10 films for the previous nine weekends. The aggregate box office leaped to $140 million, giving a year-to-date total of $7.3 billion, about 9% ahead of the same point last year.

The weekend score for “Venom” is the fifth-biggest opening by any film this year in China and the third-biggest outside the Chinese New Year period. The immediate comparison is with “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,

The record pace of the 2018 box office continues unabated, as comScore announced Sunday that domestic grosses for the year have hit $10 billion faster than any other year in box office history.

Though only five films have posted opening weekends of $100 million or more — with the last being “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” five months ago — the 2018 box office has been highlighted with two $200 million-plus openings, including a record $257 million launch by “Avengers: Infinity War.”

Even in recent months, the box office has been buoyed by strong, $50 million-plus openings from films like “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” and “Venom,” while a variety of non-blockbusters like “Crazy Rich Asians” and “A Star Is Born” have provided sustained four-quadrant turnout. As a result, 2018 has seen record high monthly grosses in February, April and October, as well as the second-highest total for June and September.

Q: What are some of your overriding memories of the first Jurassic Park movie?

A: I guess hearing for the first time that there was a part in a movie that Steven Spielberg was going to direct and then me reading the book before the meeting and then in the meeting him saying, ‘You know there’s a draft of the script now being read since we made the meeting and that draft that doesn’t include your part. Your character is absorbed into this Alan Grant character.’ I said, ‘Jeez, but maybe you ought to keep the character,’ and then lo and behold it wound up in the movie.

VFX Close Up: We go behind the scenes of Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom

  • HeyUGuys
This summer dinosaurs, yet again, invaded our cinema screens with Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Set three years after Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) saw the destruction of the Jurassic World Theme Park, the pair had to return to the Island of Isla Nublar to save the dinosaurs that were left from an erupting volcano, however, this was just the start of their problems with a newer menace in human and dinosaur form that threatened the planet.

To celebrate the home entertainment release of the dino adventure, we were invited down to Pinewood Studios to take a look behind the scenes of how the movie came to life and uncover the hidden secrets behind some of the amazing creatures and scenes.

Our first stop on the magical movie tour was a look around the iconic Pinewood Studios. Steeped in more than 80 years of movie history, the

Q: Do you have any favourite monster movies or dinosaur movies from when you were a kid?

A: Can we say that King Kong is a dinosaur movie? At school when I was very, very young, they had at my school a 16mm print of the old King Kong and they used to show it at the end of every year to all us kids. I still love that movie and I tried to work in a reference to that movie in Fallen Kingdom when we discover the indoraptor and the big gates open to reveal its shadow. There is even a moment at the end of the story when we feel sorry for the indoraptor, a moment before he dies. You feel sorry for him at

Q: Did you write this script with director Ja Bayona very much in mind – the first section was a disaster movie, while the last portion was like a horror film?

A: The last third of the movie turned into a horror movie when I understood that I could make something that could lean into Ja. It didn’t have to be in a haunted mansion. It was really the nature of the location. I am sure you could see an earlier version where dinosaurs were taken
