The Bedroom Basher

The serial rapist and serial killer Gerald Parker has been on death row for the past two decades. In spite of its title, this documentary isn't about him, rather it is about the devastating effect on two families of his sixth murder.

Late at night, Kevin Green went out to buy some takeaway food leaving his heavily pregnant wife alone in the house. When he returned, he found her battered almost to death. She had also been raped. The doctors fought heroically to save her, they did, but the baby died, and Dianna Green was left with traumatic brain injuries that affected both her personality and her memory.

Shockingly, as her memory returned, she pointed the finger at her husband. Even though the police had been working on the theory she had been attacked by the Bedroom Basher, Kevin was charged, tried and convicted.

A detective who worked on the case said in 1979, DNA was not up to today's exacting standards. Actually, there was no DNA profiling at all, but after Kevin had spent 16 years behind bars, forensic science caught up with Parker, who was also in prison, for unrelated crimes. Parker's conscience appears to have caught up with him too, and he confessed to all his crimes.

Kevin Green appears throughout this documentary, so does his sister, his family never having stopped believing in him. Sadly, the same cannot be said for his former wife, who still believes he attacked her.
