MPAA Rated PG for thematic elements and some language

Sex & Nudity

  • The main character is a widowed single mother, and a subplot involves her romancing a new man.
  • No serious nudity or sexual content other than light dialogue and some kissing.

Violence & Gore

  • Part of the film centers around racial discrimination in the United States. We see a security guard escort a black family from a library. The mother tells the guard to not touch her two sons. There is also a scene with a protest of black people, fighting for equal rights. No blood or confrontation seen.
  • Footage (both vintage newsreel stock footage, and newly filmed material for the movie) does feature the attitudes towards African-Americans that were common at the time of filming, including growling police dogs ready to lunge at peaceful protesters. However the amount of actual violence shown on screen is very minimal.

  • There are several utterances of swear words in the film, such as "damn" and "bastard". "Jesus Christ" uttered irreverently

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The three main characters get drunk at home in one scene and dance around, though this is more of a playful, comical scene, and does not glorify alcohol.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The film features many "of the period" attitudes, including racism and discrimination towards African-Americans, which may be a bit shocking to younger viewers.
