Storyline

In 1995 five year old Jesse Wells disappeared whilst playing with friends including older brother Mark. Twenty years later one of those friends, policeman Danny is investigating a woman's murder and finds Jesse's DNA at the crime scene. He informs Mark, now a lawyer and the other two friends, doctor Pru and Slade, who runs a homeless shelter. Paedophile Jakob Marosi had admitted to killing Jesse and sticks to his story when Mark visits him in prison. Slade encounters a young girl, Gemma Morgan, who has been missing for five years and claims to have been held with other children, her presence disturbing Slade's colleague Brit. Afterwards Slade goes to a meeting in a hotel room whilst Danny pursues the murder suspect who may or may not be Jesse. Written by don @ minifie-1

Pretty Typical
23 October 2017 | by HitchcocSee all my reviews

Harlan Coben books are fun, but they do have a pretty consistent formula. There is almost always a mysterious disappearance where the victim is never found. At least until there is evidence of some kind that this person is still alive. In this one, a five year old boy who followed his brother and his friends into the woods is sent back home. He never gets there, and a child molester admits to having killed him. But no body. The other factor here is that there is some kind of secret among the five friends who left the boy behind. They gather back home (one has been living in the States and the show is in England). The kicker is that the DNA of the "dead" boy is found in the blood at a murder scene. Good setup. Can they pull it off?
