Stands alone very well

Very good. They change some things from the books, but the changes are justified. You don't have to read the books to get what's happening. I love what they did with Lemony Snicket. The first episode was a bit awkward, but overall, as it progressed, I found myself enjoying it more. I think the kids were cast well. I liked the cheesy cheery settings in the first and while sometimes the effects are a bit lacking, I didn't have too much of a problem. it sticks to the story very well, and I think the casting was done well, especially with Count Olaf. He's goofy, but still a valid threat against the kids. The song at the end of the last episode was unexpected, but I love it! Can't wait for the next episode.
