NIca Noelle's recent breakthrough into Gay Cinema is not enhanced by HIS SON'S BEST FRIEND, ominously advertised on the DVD packaging as Volume 1 of a series that should be nipped in the bud. Feature goes nowhere, mere sex filler.
Nica has handled this particular subject and dramatic situation many, many times in her boy/girl and girl/girl features over the years, and even has a similar Gay edition predating this one, titled HIS DAUGHTER'S BOYFRIEND, with the same star Nick Capra appearing.
This time Nick is not the daddy but rather a routine chicken-hawk, whose handsome young prey, and Capra's well-honed skills in the sack are the reason genre fans will watch it for stimulation. But I demand a whole lot more of Nica based on her numerous past achievements. Unfortunately she delivers only the most basic of brief scene and character set-ups, rushing to the explicit sex as fast as her furry little feet can take her.
Back of the envelope plot concerns waif Jimmy, played listlessly with occasional eye-rolling by Colton Grey, he like Nica anxious to dispense with preliminaries and get on to the humping. Homeless because his ne'er-do-well dad (not shown, and not a character in this edition at least) has shiftlessly lost their home, he's picked up hitchhiking in the opener by Capra, who plays his teacher back from high school days. They go to Capra's home and have sex in his spare guest room. Featuring the de rigeur "magically appearing" condom technique (these videos are intent on promoting safe sex at the expense of the story or cinematic fantasy element), this sex is by the numbers and Capra plays to the camera, not adopting the naturalism that is Nica's trademark approach.
With some more atmospheric exterior footage for transition, Jimmy is back on the highway, hooking up with his friend Chris (Sam Truitt), and they go back to Chris's house. Chris's stern dad arrives in the form of Adam Russo, a bald performer with lots of facial hair who could easily pass for a mainstream TV actor. He gets mad at them for playing with his laptop in his bedroom while he's out, and is surprised to find Jimmy next morning sleeping in their laundry room.
Feeling sorry for the boy, he lets him stay in their guest room and assigns him chores around the house to pay for his keep. Meanwhile, Chris visits Capra, who was also his teacher and wham! bam! they are humping away without hardly a hello exchanged. This scene is really to be faulted because Nick goes through almost exactly the same routine (same positions in the same order, even the same groans) as in his previous sex scene, and even throws in a brief foot fetish action that is identical. We're watching explicit porn content being ground out mindlessly, aimed at the gonzo segment of the market.
I'm guessing (with no hard evidence) that part of the problem is that the video companies are now emphasizing on-line viewing as their meal ticket, and these features are actually being viewed more & more by streaming of individual, isolated segments rather than as a whole.
Dad Russo reveals his homosexual tendencies by meeting with a male prostitute (Trent Ferris) at a hotel, purportedly a first time with a man for the daddy. Although their sex scene displays the requisite sense of urgency, like the other XXX material here it has zero emotional connection. Just by having the guys smooch a lot, Nica has failed to inject the desired romance into her feature this time out.
Formula finale has Russo hooking up with young Jimmy and banging away, but it comes off as forced, especially since we've seen Russo do his suddenly Gay thing with the prostitute just moments before, so the main element of suspense for the viewer is: can he deliver another money shot? Where is the twist, the switcheroo or even momentary irony in Noelle's script? All we get is listless, cookie-cutter porn.
