Storyline

After student Alex Gartside is run over and killed, Vera visits the home she was housesitting for an elderly couple on holiday only to discover the corpse of a young man. Initially nobody can identify him, including Alex's mother, Vanessa, and neighbours Brian and Lorraine Hallam, or guess why Alex had moth traps in the garden. The mystery man is identified as solitary ex-offender Martin Neilson who volunteered for a charity to help former prisoners, which was hit with a blackmail scheme. There is also the matter of a love triangle involving Alex, Brian's barmaid daughter, Lizzie, and her boyfriend, Jason, whose van was seen near where Alex was killed. In wrapping up the case, Vera discovers events involving some of the suspects which date back for some ten years earlier. Written by don @ minifie-1

A really classy mystery for Vera.

This sixth series has been utterly fantastic, it comes as no surprise to me that the show is doing so well in terms of viewing figures, people are definitely tuning in.

Noof McEwan did a cracking job in the role as new DC Cherradi, I think he'll be a great addition.

Just another wonderful, stylish murder mystery, gloriously produced and acted, great job all round. Tanya Franks and Jack Ellis in particular were very good. It's nice to see that Vera has softened a little bit as time has gone on too. She used to be a bit prickly, now we're seeing a different side to her character.

Brilliant once again, 9/10
