The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run Super Bowl Trailer Recruits Snoop Dogg to the Team

  • MovieWeb
Paramount and Nickelodeon have released The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the RunSuper Bowl spot. Though it's short, the new footage gives a great overview of what the story is about. SpongeBob and Patrick are on the hunt for Gary after he was snail-napped and it looks like rapper Snoop Dogg may be able to offer up his services along the way. The rapper could possibly be a dream sequence or flashback, it's not clear at this time. The first look at the long-awaited movie appeared late last year, so fans should be excited to get a fresh look before its May release date.

This Super Bowl spot is only 30 seconds, but it packs in a lot. Technically, the footage won't arrive during the big game, as Squidward points out at the very beginning of the spot. This is a pre-game commercial, so it's a little bit less expensive than an ad running during the game.

‘The Spongebob Movie’ Super Bowl Trailer Shows Off ‘Fast Cars, Flashbacks, Snoop Dogg’ (Video)
Super Bowl ads are expensive, even for the pre-game, so in the latest teaser trailer for “The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run” that will air during the big game, Mr. Krabs gives Spongebob Squarepants 26 seconds to describe everything that happens in the new movie.

“There’s fast cars, flashbacks, Snoop Dogg, robots, a wise sage, churros, the only thing missing is Gary,” Spongebob says in the clip. “Well, that was money well spent,” Mr. Krabs replies.

And yes, the trailer does have everything, including a live-action Snoop Dogg playing himself performing to a crowd of cartoon fish. And that “wise sage” is none other than Keanu Reeves’ face glowing over a mystical ball of tumbleweed. They both appear on Spongebob and Patrick’s journey as they search the ocean looking for his missing pet snail Gary.

Will Ferrell Is a Competitive Gamer in New eSports Comedy

Will Ferrell Is a Competitive Gamer in New eSports Comedy
Will Ferrell has tried his best to branch out from comedy over the years, doing everything from foreign beer commercials to a Lifetime Original movie with Kristen Wiig. But comedy is clearly what he is best at and what brings in the most at the box office, so that is what he is sticking to at the moment. That being the case, Legendary Pictures has tapped him to star in and produce a new comedy about the world of eSports.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Will Ferrell had been tapped for the as-of-yet untitled comedy that will take place in the world of competitive gaming. In the movie, Will Ferrell will be playing something of a fish out of water, as he will be a middle aged guy competing against a bunch of teenagers for large sums of money. Here is how THR is describing the movie.

Will Ferrell has been a Nascar driver, semi-pro Basketball player, and even a figure skater. Now, he intends on conquering the fast-rising video game leagues of eSports. eSports isn't like your normal NFL, NBA, or Mlb. Instead, it embodies not just one game, but several including League of Legends, Counterstrike, Super Smash Bros., World of Warcraft, etc.

If you're unfamiliar with eSports and are scoffing at this idea, eSports is no joke. Where NFL players get $20 million contracts that get paid out over 4 years, eSports players can get close to that in one night, by winning championships and earning endorsements.

As for Ferrell's new film, it's way too
