Peanuts is coming to Apple’s new streaming service

It’s not just Disney who plans to get in on the streaming game next year, as Apple has also been assembling a host of original programming for its own as-yet-unannounced streaming service, and now comes word from Deadline that the tech giant has signed a deal to bring Charlie Brown, Snoopy and friends to its catalogue of content.

Deadline reports that Dhx Media is set to produce new Peanuts content, which will include new series, specials and shorts based upon the beloved Charles M. Schulz characters. As part of the deal, it will also feature original sort-form Stem content as part of the Space Act Agreement between Peanuts Worldwide and Nasa to inspire a passion for space exploration and science among the next generation of students.

In addition to Peanuts, Apple has a number of original shows in the pipeline, including (but not limited to!) a thriller series from M. Night Shyamalan,

Ooh, it’s a great week for horror fans, as this Tuesday’s Blu-ray and DVD releases are a stellar bunch of films that will make for great additions to your personal collection of movies to enjoy from the comfort of your own home. Because it is the holiday season, I’m stoked to see Scream Factory show a little love to Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2 with their Collector’s Edition Blu that hits shelves tomorrow, and for those of you who enjoy your horror movies with a side of sleaze, William Lustig’s Maniac has been given the 4K treatment by Blue Underground (and the film has never looked better).

The Mangler is also getting a brand new Blu-ray this week, and Scorpion Releasing is resurrecting Death Ship with their new Special Edition release as well. Vinegar Syndrome is keeping busy with both Ice Cream Man and Beware My Brethren,

Rob Golenberg Joins Silver Lining Entertainment As Partner

Veteran TV packaging agent-turned-manager/producer Rob Golenberg has joined his brother Jeff Golenberg and his partners Sam Maydew and Jason Shapiro at Silver Lining Entertainment. Golenberg will be a partner at the management/production company, with a focus on building out a lit department and ramping up the company’s content production division.

Rob Golenberg brings with him over a dozen TV lit management clients, including Charlie Craig (Pretty Little Liars: Perfectionists), Alison Tatlock, Scott Williams (NCIS), Sonay Hoffman, John Beck & Ron Hart, and Jon Emerson & Annie Levine (Central Park).

20th Century Fox TV Names Marci Proietto Executive Vice President of Animation

20th Century Fox has named Marci Proietto to the newly created position of executive vice president of animation, the studio announced Tuesday.

In this role, Proietto will continue to head the studio’s animation area, overseeing creative and production of the studio’s hit animated properties. Those include “Family Guy,” “Bob’s Burgers,” “American Dad,” and “The Simpsons.”

Additionally, she is responsible for the studio’s animation development slate as well as upcoming series including: “Central Park” for Apple from Loren Bouchard and Josh Gad; “Solar Opposites” for Hulu from Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan; “Bless the Harts” for Fox from Emily Spivey, Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Kristen Wiig and Seth Cohen; “Duncanville” for Fox from Amy Poehler and Mike and Julie Scully; and “Hoops” for Netflix from Ben Hoffman, Lord, Miller and Jake Johnson.

Fox to Develop Comedy Starring, Co-Created by ‘Another Period’s’ Riki Lindhome

Fox is developing a single-camera comedy that hails from Riki Lindhome and Monica Padrick.

“Tails” will follow Erika (Lindhome), a woman in her late 30s, who despite the pressure she feels from the world around her, refuses to settle in any area of her life. Lindhome will serve as writer and executive producer on the project alongside Padrick in addition to starring. Fox has given the project a script commitment with a penalty attached.

Amy Poehler will also executive produce via her Paper Kite Productions banner, with Paper Kite’s Kim Lessing producing. Dave Becky of 3 Arts Entertainment will also executive produce. Universal Television will produce in association with Paper Kite, which is set up under an overall deal at the studio.

Netflix Orders ‘Hoops’ Adult Animated Series Starring Jake Johnson From Ben Hoffman, Phil Lord, Chris Miller & 20th TV
Netflix is expanding its adult animated series slate, ordering 10 episodes of Hoops starring former New Girl star Jake Johnson, from writer-comedian Ben Hoffman, Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego Movie), Bento Box (Bob’s Burgers) and 20th Century Fox TV.

Created, and written by Hoffman, Hoops centers around a hot-headed, foul-mouthed high school basketball coach who thinks turning around his God-awful team will take him to the “big leagues.”

Lord, Miller, Seth Cohen and Johnson executive produce with Hoffman. 20th Century Fox, where Lord & Miller are under a pod deal, is producing with Bento Box Animation.

Jake Johnson to Star in Netflix Adult Animated Comedy Series ‘Hoops’
Jake Johnson will play the lead role in an animated comedy that has been ordered to series at Netflix, Variety has learned.

Titled “Hoops,” the series centers on a hot-headed, foul-mouthed high school basketball coach (Johnson) who thinks turning around his God-awful team will take him to the “big leagues.” Netflix has ordered 10 episodes of the half-hour series.

Johnson will also serve as an executive producer on the series in addition to voicing the main character. The actor is best known for his role as Nick Miller on the popular Fox comedy “New Girl,” which concluded earlier this year after seven seasons. Johnson has also recently lent his voice to the Netflix animated series “BoJack Horseman.” On the film side, he recently appeared in “Jurassic World” and “The Mummy.”

He is repped by UTA, 3 Arts Entertainment, and Jackoway Tyerman.

Bob’s Burgers creator’s new series Central Park picked up by Apple

Apple TV has won a competitive bidding war for the new animated musical comedy series Central Park, which comes from Bob’s Burgers creator Loren Bouchard, executive producer Nora Smith, and actor Josh Gad (Frozen).

The series has been granted a two-season, 26-episode straight to series order, and will see Gad joined in the voice cast by Leslie Odom Jr., Titus Burgess, Kristen Bell, Stanley Tucci, Daveed Diggs and Kathryn Hahn.

The show will tell the story of a family of caretakers living and working in Central Park, who end up saving not only the park, but the entire world. The project was originally developed by 20th Century Television for Fox, and when the network passed it received interest from Apple, Netflix and Hulu.
