The Meg (2018)
It's a new Meg-ginning when the world's biggest, meanest fish returns to terrorize the ocean floor and much, much more. This time, the prehistoric prima donna will be bringing company: more Megalodon sharks and a deadly Kronosaurus. Jason Statham again plays rescue diver Jonas Taylor, who takes a deep-sea dive into the titular Trench, with Cliff Curtis, Shuya Sophia Cai, Sienna Guillory, and martial arts master Wu Jing in tow. Four years ago, the ocean's largest predator - or Meg to her friends - breaches the Mariana Trench, and eats everything in her way, until Meg is finally taken down by a school of sharks. But surprise! More prehistoric pals have suddenly surfaced. English indie filmmaker Ben Wheatley ('Kill List,' 'Free Fire') sinks his teeth into this shark-filled sequel. 'Meg 2: The Trench' swims into theaters in August 2023.

      In real life, Jason Statham is an expert swimmer. In the 1990 Commonwealth Games, he represented England in diving. Footage of him competing can be found online. Most of the shots of him in the water are real. A stunt double was used for more hazardous shots.
    • Goofs
      Owing to the general lack of sunlight at deeper sea levels, the Meg should realistically not be able to see at all as it surfaces, since the greater volume of light up there is much more overwhelming than what it's been accustomed to for millions of years. The book gets this right and has the important reoccurring plot-point that the Meg only surfaces at night because the sunlight hurts its eyes.

    Mediocre and Preditable
    Jason Statham deserves much better role than this average and predictable movie. The Chinese actors speak English with typical Chinese accents and they need a lot of improvement for their acting skills. The only plus point was the occasional scares from the extinct dinosaur Megalodon which were extremely huge and much better than the great white JAWS but other than that the plot was very predictable.
