What Do We Want From ‘The Lion King’ and Disney’s Live-Action Remakes?

You remember the opening. Of course you do. For a generation of kids who grew up watching the film in theaters or on DVD, it’s damn near iconic. The sun rises above the African savanna. The chant begins: “Naaaaa-nts ingonyama bagithi Baba.” Antelopes look up from their munching; meerkats spring to attention. From far and wide, animals fly and gallop and lumber and march, each of them drawn toward something. Everything becomes a blur until we swoop above the fray and — “the cirrrrrcle/of liiiiiife!” A majestic lion stands atop a ridge.

Zachary Levi Says He’s Too Old To Star In A Live Action Tangled Remake

This week sees the release of Jon Favreau’s The Lion King, the third of five live action Disney remakes coming out this year alone. With new takes on The Little Mermaid and Mulan heading to theaters in 2020 and dozens of other re-imaginings rumored to be on the way, it seems like any and every one of Disney’s animated classics are eligible for an update. Though fans may not be clamoring for a photo-realistic Chicken Little or Home on the Range, 2010’s Tangled seems very likely to make for a smash hit modernization – just ask star Zachary Levi.

Better known today for playing the titular character in Shazam! and smaller appearances in the Thor franchise, Levi’s voice only part as Flynn Rider was one of his largest and most successful theatrical roles. The actor is certainly handsome and charming enough to reprise the swashbuckling character if it were to be remade,

Crossbows and catapults abound in the new battle-hungry trailer for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil

Nothing says evil like a pair of protruding sharpened horns, cheekbones you could eat your dinner off and a set of wings the caped crusader would envy. Except perhaps cabbage – cabbage would make it even more evil. However, as there are no instances of brassica oleracea in the new trailer for Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil you’ll have to make do with Angelina Jolie looking angry and flying about in a huff.

The sequel sees Jolie and Elle Fanning reprising their roles as Maleficent and Aurora in a new story that picks up several years after their first adventure.

Newcomers to the series include Michelle Pfeiffer as Queen Ingrith, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ed Skrein, Robert Lindsay and Harris Dickinson as Prince Phillip. They join returning cast members Sam Riley as Diaval; Imelda Staunton as the pixie Knotgrass; Juno Temple as the pixie Thistlewit; Lesley Manville as the pixie Flittle.

Angelina Jolie Goes to War with Michelle Pfeiffer in New Trailer for Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil

Disney has released a new trailer for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, and it features a lot of new footage from the film that shows Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent going to war with Michelle Pfeiffer‘s Queen Ingrith. The trailer also reveals the reason they go to war.

Maleficent is shown as an overbearing mother figure who doesn’t want Princess Aurora (Elle Fanning) to marry Price Phillip (Harris Dickinson) because she doesn’t like his mom. I guess that might be a good reason to wreak havoc on a kingdom.

I wasn’t really a fan of the first film, and this sequel looks like it’ll be more of the same to me. The movie was directed by Joachim Rønning (Kon Tiki) from a script written by Linda Woolverton (Maleficent), and here’s the synopsis:

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is a fantasy adventure that picks up several years after “Maleficent,
