Nick Cave Thrives in Solitude in Socially Distanced ‘Idiot Prayer’ Concert Film

Nick Cave Thrives in Solitude in Socially Distanced ‘Idiot Prayer’ Concert Film
For decades, Nick Cave has flanked himself at concerts with at least half a dozen members of his band, the Bad Seeds. Dressed in black leisure suits with widely flayed collars, like a gang of 1970s accountants out on the town, they always appeared to have his back — not just by filling his dusky songs with violin and vibraphones, but also emotionally, as he sang about failed romance, grief, and enormity. No matter what he sang, with the Bad Seeds behind him, you knew he would be all right.

Nick Cave Looks for Peace and Finds Hope on ‘Ghosteen’
It’s a rare thing to see an artist’s worldview change overnight. For decades, Nick Cave has been goth rock’s hyperliterate poet laureate, famous for his intricately molded stories about rogues and “badlanders” all in the throes of anguish. (He has also always written beautiful love songs.) But where writing about doom and despair once seemed like a lark — see “Stagger Lee,” John Finn’s Wife,” Murder Ballads, etc. — the freak death of his 15-year-old son Arthur four years ago rightfully shook him to his core. East End Film Festival Movie Review – Waiting for You (2018)

Waiting for You, 2018

Directed by Charles Garrad

Starring Colin Morgan, Fanny Ardant, Audrey Bastien, Adelkrim Bahloul

Synopsis:

When Paul’s (Colin Morgan) father utters some deathbed clues to a past his son knew nothing about, it triggers a journey of discovery that leads him to a house situated amongst the foothills of the French countryside. Here lives Madeleine (Fanny Ardant), a secretive musician, who might be the key to unlocking the dark secrets of his childhood.

There’s a lot to like about Charles Garrad’s European postcard of a movie. It’s one of those jaunty little flicks that’d sit perfectly on a bleak Sunday afternoon’s viewing schedule. That’s not to do it a disservice, because Waiting for You strikes the perfect balance between untaxing entertainment, with just the right amount of mystery bubbling under to keep you intrigued amongst the holiday romance and junior detective work.
