The scene where the chief inspector Max Vernon walks up to the siege you can clearly see a Ford Escort Police Vehicle (Reg YPA 629Y). Y reg cars didn't come out until 1982 but this siege was in April 1980. See more »

Pleasantly Understated
23 November 2017 | by lochlipSee all my reviews

I am so used to many action movies going over the top with their 'lets kick some asses' type of gung-ho that this was a pleasant change. I remember the siege so well and the dramatic moment the SAS abseiled down from the roof and made entry. Seeing what went on behind the scene, of the frustration of both negotiating team and the soldiers being stood down then back to the front again after the retraining for different scenarios, I found fascinating. Not once did it lose my interest and I was glad the action was not over the top just for effect. The only aspect that let the film down, and big time, was the cringe-worthy portrayal of Kate Adie by an insipid actress, who I doubt had ever studied footage of the lady she was portraying. Miss Adie was not glamorous. She was precise and efficient and very believable. Everything this actress failed to convey. So only 7 stars because of this.
