Sex & Nudity

  • A man strips fully naked. His butt is shown.
  • There are several montages throughout the film containing brief sex scenes with thrusting and breast nudity.
  • A man threatens a woman to take off her clothes; she does, and we briefly see her breasts.
  • Character of Varg reveals his erect penis in two scenes (penis is an obvious prosthetic).

Violence & Gore

  • During a live show, a man slits his wrists and arms on stage. Blood sprays into the crowd. He then throws a pig's severed head into the crowd, which two people are shown taking bites out of.
  • There are scenes of vandalism throughout, particularly church burnings.
  • Multiple scenes featuring dead animals, including: a package with a dead rat on a crucifix, a man huffing from a bag containing a dead crow, a dead cat dangling from a noose, a man prodding a dead fox in the middle of the road, and a man placing a dead rabbit outside of a church he is about to burn.
  • Several scenes of obviously fake-looking violence and gore in horror movies that characters watch on TV.

  • A homosexual man is stabbed to death in a park at night.
  • A man "jokes" about having his friends eat a dead person's brain.

Other profanity including 16 uses of "sh*t," 2 of "ass," 5 of "hell,", 2 of "dick" 1 of "bastard," 1 of "damn", a few of "piss," 1 of "pussy," 1 of "whore." Several uses of derogatory terms, including one use of "f*ggot."
  • Multiple references to Satanism and Nazism.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Social drinking and smoking throughout.
  • Various characters are seen drunk and then hungover.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Because this is black metal, this is guaranteed to be brutally intense.
  • A black metal vocalist cuts his arms and blood sprays to the crowd. He is later seen in a near-blank state while being cheered up.
  • A man (Dead) commits self-harm, by slitting his wrists and throat, and suicide, by a shotgun blow, shown in grisly and disturbingly graphic detail. The scene is dragged out for about 3 minutes.
  • It's revealed in one scene that dead hates cats and kills them just for fun, very upsetting for cat lovers (Despite not really having much to do with the plot).

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • An older man attempts to seduce another man in public by touching his private area and placing the man's hand on his private area. They walk off presumably to have sex and the younger man stabs the older one repeatedly, killing him.

Violence & Gore

  • In a graphic and lengthy scene, a man slashes his wrists and throat, then shoots himself in the head with a hunting shotgun.
  • There are two murders in the film, both of which are depicted very graphically, with the victims being stabbed multiple times.
  • After finding that his friend committed suicide, a man takes macabre photos of his friend's dead body, moving it around and posing it. The man also gives necklaces to his band mates that he says are made of bone taken from his friend's skull.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Dead's suicide scene is extremely hard to watch. He slits both of his wrists, cuts his own throat, and then blows his head off. All of this is shown in brutal detail.
  • The scene where Varg kills Euronymous is intense and drawn out.
  • Euronymous has several bizarre nightmares where he is haunted by Dead's death. These scenes contain several jump scares.
