Creating TV programs since the early '90s, screenwriter Shawn Ryan admittedly took a while to make his way into the streaming world. There’s a good chance that if you hear the name Shameik Moore, you’d associate him with the voice of Miles Morales from the animated Spider-Verse films. The actor has lent his vocal cords to the character over two — soonish to be three — movies starting back in 2018 with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Outside of that, you might recognize him for his live-action roles in movies like The Gutter or Samaritan or even for his on-screen appearance as Raekwon in Hulu’s series, Wu-Tang: An American Saga. But those who have been with his career even earlier might have gotten their first view of Moore’s abilities in a gone-too-soon Netflix series titled The Get Down. The show, which centered its story on the birth of hip-hop, was also one of the first gigs that put Justice Smith in the spotlight alongside industry vets Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen) and...

Jaden Smith doesn’t mind dropping his last name? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Jaden Smith and Will Smith are probably Hollywood’s most excellent father-son duos. Although the two had their fair share of conflicts, their relationship has always felt vibrant. Jaden’s debut on-screen with Will in The Pursuit of Happyness showcased their special bond. Over the years, the two have worked on other creative projects, shared laughs, and sometimes even fashion statements.
While Will is known for being a supportive dad, Jaden isn’t afraid to do his own thing. As Jaden craves his own space in music and film, his presence in the industry is no less impressive. Despite growing up as Will’s son, he has always been under the spotlight, but there was a time when he took steps to make his own identity.

Netflix is not consistently opposed to canceling series, as it has done in the past with popular ones like Sense8 and The Get Down. The streaming service also has plenty of popular shows that have run for four, five, or even more seasons. Grace and Frankie currently remains Netflix's longest-running series to date, having concluded its run after seven successful seasons. However, there's another show poised to snatch this honor away.
Grace and Frankie ranks among the best long-running shows, meaning those with at least four seasons. As such, it's in good company with several others that Netflix fans enjoy, such as the supernatural Stranger Things and the hit prison show Orange Is The New Black. That said, there are a lot more long-running shows on Netflix for fans to watch, and they come in a wide range of genres.

Baz Luhrmann has set his new project, “Jehanne d’Arc,” at Warner Bros.
Warners has confirmed that the filmmaker will next take on the epic tale of France’s national heroine and saint Joan of Arc. The teenaged Joan of Arc became a heroine after leading the French army to victory in Orléans in 1429. She was burned at the stake in 1431.
Earlier this year, Luhrmann dropped out of the long-awaited English-language adaptation of Russian novel “The Master and Margarita,” stepping back from the project entirely following concerns over the book rights.
A casting call for the Joan of Arc character will go out Tuesday.
Luhrmann’s directing debut came in 1992 with “Strictly Ballroom,” which began as a short play at the Wharf Theatre in Sydney. The film’s breakout success led to his subsequent string of hits such as “Romeo + Juliet” (1996), “Moulin Rouge!” (2001), “Australia” (2008), “The Great Gatsby” (2013) and most recently “Elvis.

More than a decade has gone by since the Twilight Saga ran its course on the big screen, with five movies telling the story of the four books in author Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series. So, of course, it’s time for a franchise revival! While there are some side stories and reimaginings that could still be brought to the screen in live action, that’s not the way things are going right now. Earlier this year, we heard that Lionsgate was developing a Twilight animated series, and now that series is set up at the Netflix streaming service! Netflix also revealed that this animated series is an adaptation of the Midnight Sun novel.
When we first heard that Lionsgate would be taking Twilight to TV, it was said that Meyer was expected to be involved with the series, with Wyck Godfrey and Erik Feig serving as executive producers. Feig...

The streamer has granted a straight-to-series order for the animated show, which has officially begun development, Netflix announced Wednesday. The project, which hails from Lionsgate Television, is described as a “retelling of ‘Twilight’ from the perspective of Edward Cullen.”

Meyer will executive produce alongside Meghan Hibbett for Fickle Fish Films, while additional EPs include Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen for Temple Hill Entertainment and Erik Feig and Samie Kim Falvey for Picturestart.

A-list movie directors are increasingly creating TV shows, thanks to the creative freedom offered by streaming platforms. Some TV shows, like "Band of Brothers," continue a director's exploration of a certain theme. Directors like David Fincher and the Wachowski sisters bring their unique styles to TV shows like "Mindhunter" and "Sense8".
A-list movie directors sometimes take time out from their regular careers to create TV shows, many of which have scooped several awards. The advent of streaming has attracted more movie directors to TV than ever before, especially since streaming platforms often offer unrestricted creative freedom. This results in some bold TV shows that reflect a director's style.
Sometimes, a TV show starts life as an idea for a movie, but the director reconsiders this after working on it further. Not too long ago, movie directors would rarely consider making a TV show, but there is now more money and prestige associated with TV.

Robert Pattinson disliked the sparkling vampire makeup in Twilight. A Twilight reboot series is in development as an animated series. Jacob Elordi and Jenna Ortega are suggested for the lead roles in the reboot.
Its been 12 long years since the Twilight franchise concluded with Breaking Dawn Part 2 in 2012, but one thing everyone still comments on are those darn sparkles. Star Jackson Rathbone is no exception, who recently told an audience full of fans how Robert Pattinson really felt about becoming a sparkling vampire in the series. Rathbone starred alongside Pattinson in The Twilight Saga as Jasper Hale, the newest member of the Cullen family who can manipulate emotions and has trouble sticking to their vegetarian diet of animal blood.
Appearing at Emerald City Comic Con earlier this year (via PopVerse), Rathbone told the audience in attendance at the Twilight spotlight panel that like most of us Robert Pattinson hated those sparkles.

Mamoudou Athie can practically taste the lobster rolls from the Carlton hotel. He smiles wistfully as he taps into that sense memory of his first trip to the Cannes Film Festival. In 2023, Athie voiced the lead role in Disney-Pixar’s “Elemental,” which closed the fest. And he’s returning this week as part of the first-rate ensemble of Yorgos Lanthimos’ offbeat movie “Kinds of Kindness.”
Discussion of the crustacean-filled dish might seem irrelevant, but it’s perhaps not incidental. Athie begins our conversation by revealing that his first encounter with Lanthimos’ unique sensibilities was 2015’s “The Lobster.” The Mauritanian American actor, who was studying at Yale School of Drama at the time, was captivated by the originality of the material and the conviction the filmmaker brought to his craft.

Netflix's trend of canceling shows like The Brothers Sun before they can fully develop is disappointing and leaves viewers wanting more. Factors like ratings and cost per episode may play a role in Netflix's decisions to cancel shows after just one season, despite positive reviews. The Brothers Sun joins a list of acclaimed Netflix shows, like The Get Down and Ratched, that have been abruptly canceled without much explanation.
Although Netflix is arguably the most popular streaming service currently available, the company has a growing problem with canceling top-notch TV shows with little-to-no concrete reason being provided to subscribers, most recently The Brothers Sun. As demonstrated with the cancelation of Ratched among many other shows, Netflix has developed a trend of canceling shows before they have a fair chance to really develop into something memorable. Cancelations of TV shows, even when well-received, are common due to various reasons like budget cuts and lack of audience consistency. Cliffhangers in the final episode of a canceled series can leave fans frustrated and with unanswered questions about the show's future. Despite positive reception and potential for success, some TV shows are canceled after only one season, leaving fans disappointed and wanting more.
Some TV shows have been undeservedly canceled over the years after only one season. While they're unfortunate, cancelations aren't rare, especially amidst budget cuts from studios and the continuous creation of new content, but that doesn't make it any less heartbreaking for fans. From the inability to find a strong and consistent audience, to production delays, there are varying reasons for canceling a TV show. A streamer or network can choose to cancel a TV show, regardless of whether it receives positive reception from both audiences and critics.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is the most expensive TV show ever made, but its high budget doesn't necessarily reflect its overall quality. Shows like Joey, The Get Down, Hemlock Grove, Marco Polo, and Terra Nova had high production costs but failed to make a lasting impact or justify their budgets.
As the decades go on and TV becomes a bigger, more profitable industry, studios invest more in new shows, but bigger investments don't always make better shows. Making TV shows is never exactly cheap. To produce one show, several teams of people need to be recruited and paid in order to simply pull an idea together, before getting actors involved, cameraman, lighting, wardrobe, make-up, editing, and so on. The costs rack up quickly, but for the most part,...

Ratched's cancellation despite its popularity highlights Netflix's trend of canceling shows after one season, leaving viewers and writers in an uncomfortable spot. Netflix's failure to officially announce Ratched's cancellation for three years shows a careless handling of shows that can erode audience trust. The lack of transparency in Netflix's handling of Ratched's cancellation makes it harder for audiences to stay subscribed and trust the streamer with future promising shows.
Despite its popularity, the recent update regarding the cancelation of Netflix's Ratched makes one of the streamer's biggest subscriber complaints even worse. Ratched is a psychological thriller and prequel series to the Jack Nicholson-led One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest that sees Sarah Paulson as the villainous nurse, Mildred Ratched. While the first season was a success with critics and general audiences, Ratched season 2 doesn't look likely, considering Netflix hasn't provided audiences with a proper update three...

Baz Luhrmann has discovered a surprising result of his stint as head of jury at the Red Sea Film Festival: empathy for film critics.
“I’ve never done this before. I’ve never been forced to sit and watch three to four movies a day,” Luhrmann tells Variety. “It’s given me more compassion for those journalists and people on juries. And I don’t mean in a bad way, because I’ve got unbelievable energy from it. And it’s not easy — just the amount of movies you see. But it’s really, really stimulating. I’ve been reminded that, actually, movies can be really powerful and really good.”
The movies have also provided Luhrmann with an argument for his decision, not without controversy, to participate in the festival. “When people talk about the Red Sea Festival, my answer is really simple. Go and see the movies, then come...

During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast to discuss the film 15 years after it originally came out, the filmmaker chimed in on who she’d want to play Edward Cullen and Bella Swan in a film today.
When asked if Jacob Elordi and Jenna Ortega would portray the two main characters, Hardwicke admitted, “Oh, that would be perfect,” she said, adding of Elordi, “I mean, he’s amazing. He probably would be Edward today.”
She explained that so many people come to mind when she thinks about who could be cast in the roles in the present day. Model Lewis Tan approached her recently and told her he went out for the role of Jacob Black, which eventually went to Taylor Lautner.
