Follow Cassandra down the rabbit hole as she teeters between the known and unknown; between reality and imagination. Cassandra Awakens explores the delicate veil that is children's cancer, in all its tragedy and hope. Set in a fairy-tale world, accompany Cassandra through the forest, down the river and into her dreams as she seeks an answer to the disease through her looking glass. As she treads a rustic terrain, she encounters the feral children of the forest, a fragile balance of compromised innocence and unresolved destiny. The feral children of the forest guide Cassandra to an alternate prosperity. A look into what could have been within the blanket fruitfulness of eternal youth, Cassandra seeks and ultimately finds redemption. But could this all be as it seems? Even though the film was shot in spring, besides the floods, rain and the extremely hot weather, changing every day, the production had to deal with the snow as well. The beginning of the film was shot just 6 miles away from the riverside area and hot temperatures, but even though it was May, production had to hire four snowplows the day before in order to approach the location and to remove the snow from the scene. The scene was shot from the drone as well.
