A secret mission. A horrifying discovery. The countdown to terror has begun! In 2003 billionaire astronaut Eli Cologne began his journey through space to become the first man on Mars, but something went horribly wrong.. Infected by an alien organism on the red planet, he returned to Earth a crazed, savage monster with an unquenchable thirst for human flesh. The space craft crashed undetected in a remote part of Louisiana during Hurricane Katrina, and he's been hunting both human and animal prey in the swamps for years. Beautiful yet domineering scientist Dr. Martine Munro was in charge of the Mars Mission and Eli Cologne's secret lover. Now that she's received a signal from the transmitter on the lost space craft, she and a few bumbling, nerdy scientists head to the sleepy town of Black Bayou in search of the lost astronaut. For small town sheriff Dick Ruffman, it's a race against time to find the man-turned-monster before he kills again in this horrifying and hilarious satire of low ...Written by
The main characters in 'First Man On Mars' first appeared in Mike Lyddon's (with John R. Woods) 1980 super-8 horror-comedy 'Mutilation Maniacs'. In that film, 'Dick Ruffman' was the Chief of Police, rather than the Sheriff. The coroner in 'First Man On Mars' is named Fritz Leiber. In 'Mutilation Maniacs', the virtually identical character is named Fred Sadizmo. FMOM's deputy 'Jordy Sample' was a character developed (with that name) for an unmade sequel to 'Mutilation Maniacs' called 'Invasion Of The Water Devils'. 'Mutilation Maniacs' was released as an 'extra' on Lyddon's 'Night For Nixie' DVD. See more »
Goofy and bloody retro horror comedy
First Man in Mars is totally different from the previous anthology movies they did and I'm not into the old b-movies that much, but it did have some very funny scenes. The scientists and the coroner were goofy and fun kind of like a slapstick comedy and the soundtrack music was perfect for those scenes. I thought it was funny how everyone was playing it for laughs except the sheriff and deputy who seemed to be the "straight" characters. As a Lovecraft fan I did catch the whole cult reference when the cute black girl finds the cabin in the woods. I loved the tape recording and the suspense of that scene which is as much as I'm going to say about it. I give it a strong 5 even though it's not my kind of horror film. I understand it was a satire of those low budget movies and thought it had several funny scenes. The effects were funny and bloody too.
