What Roles Did Samuel L. Jackson Turn Down?

Though he has over 180 acting credits, Samuel L. Jackson hasn't taken every role that's come his way. What movies missed out on one of the coolest actors in Hollywood?

Find out

JJ, aka John Shaft Jr. (Usher), may be a cyber security expert with a degree from MIT, but to uncover the truth behind his best friend's untimely death, he needs an education only his dad can provide. Absent throughout JJ's youth, the legendary locked-and-loaded John Shaft (Jackson) agrees to help his progeny navigate Harlem's heroin-infested underbelly. And while JJ's own FBI analyst's badge may clash with his dad's trademark leather coat, there's no denying family. Besides, Shaft's got an agenda of his own, and a score to settle that's professional and personal.

During a intense shootout scene, Shaft Jr. fires a Ruger LCP .380ACP with purple grip frame , the shell casing is shown to state that the caliber of the round fired is .22, but the shell is clearly a center fire cartridge and NOT a .22 rim fire round. See more »

John Shaft II: Who did that to you, son?
John Shaft Jr.: Don't act like you care about that.
John Shaft II: No, no, no, no. You tell me who put hands on you like you're some little punk. And you tell me right now.
John Shaft Jr.: All right, it's this... this henchman. This guy named Manuel.
John Shaft II: What? One of Manny's push-up-doing punks did that to you?
John Shaft Jr.: Yes.
John Shaft II: That motherfucker must have lost his goddamn mind!

User Reviews

A bit of silly fun
12 July 2019 | by thekarmicnomadSee all my reviews

Apart from the theme tune and some pop-culture references I have very little exposure to "Shaft" so I was not expecting much.

I was kind of hoping it would be one of those silly Samuel L films where he says mother trucker a thousand times before shooting someone. This is exactly what this is.

There is nothing clever or earth-shattering about this. There a few shoot outs and some witty banter but no one was vying for an Oscar here. If you are expecting something special or life changing you may need to look further a field.

There is a bit of comedy between Shaft senior and junior, mainly poking fun at millennials and the older generation. This was all harmless enough and, although not laugh out loud funny, was funny enough.

Maybe not one for die hard Shaft fans, adrenaline junkies, or high browers but it kills two hours easily enough.
